Guarantee that ad clicks went up after they made the navbar disappear during scroll. Devious UX nostr:note1pj83p3xxyfx62gy5z6twuzdztp8vfg7z3umj5zrduk0vafcfh7gsevq44q
I think they did this just to increase ad revenue from people accidentally tapping ads when they meant to tap the home button that disappeared
Once you used a decentralized global graph database… it’s hard to go back to anything else…

The name is the only thing that keeps me from recommending the app. Please change it

I don't like new event kinds. They make building a nostr client more difficult.
I'd like to build a gundb-like universal database on Nostr where you write to filesystem-like paths such as group/[id]/messages or group/[id]/name instead of defining new event kinds for everything that could expressed as a path. https://github.com/gundb/gun
Nostr is not going to be an "everything app" if you need new event kinds for everything.
I'm quite busy improving the very basic features of Iris, but I'll try to find time for it at some point.
I miss Gun too. I wish you continued your Rust implementation. It could have become the main implementation above the js one pretty easily!
It’s more just that with Nostr, there is no one to be angry *at*. There is no official dev team, no CEO, etc.
Primal runs much better than both Damus and Nos in terms of rendering the feed.
I’m on iOS though where Safari is just incredibly performant. Idk how it is this way
Sure, but any short term good will has to also be in the hopes of long term bigger profit.
Similar to bitcoin, anything that relies on good will alone is not sustainable. It’s also why I find the idea of zaps unhelpful.
It’s like thinking that adding a mural in the ghetto is going to revitalize their economy. Economies can’t run on good vibes!
The exception is for the person (nostr relay) that is collecting all of that collective unconscious data and packaging it up and selling it.
It makes sense that the data *as a whole* is worth money and that they should desire to compensate the contributors to the collective accordingly.
But why would fellow writers pay each other when the only one really making money is the one that sells it collectively. As a reader, you’d be paying twice
I think it is natural for Relays and Users to have an antagonistic relationship. Similar in to Bitcoin, the game theory should be embraced.
Relays have to monetize user data? Okay, users start encrypting their data.
Users encrypt their data? Okay, relays charge money to post encrypted data.
Being vehemently “anti-algorithm” is a great example of it.
Marketing Nostr as being free from monetizing users is another. (Relays are sitting on a gold mine. They will absolutely monetize on it)
maybe the answer is simpler - "Walled Gardens" are businesses... nostr is all made by hobbyists and no one even bothered to think about how to make a business out of this yet, since peeps like nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m just pick up the tab?
Relays will eventually NEED to find a way to make money off of the data they’re holding. Just need to find buyers.
Users will then start using encrypted data a lot more to protect against it. Relays will then need to charge for encrypted data (because they can’t monetize on that)

“Tony” added via autocorrect? Bizarre lol
Firstly, still missing the standard “top level posts only” view. I don’t want to see most replies in a thread unless I tap in to see.
But maybe that will be made irrelevant with a very basic algorithm.
“In the past X days, show me the most engaged (comments, reacts, quotes) posts from Tony follows and their follows”
The solution to “what relay should I use” is the same solution to “which mastodon server should i use”.
Niche hobby/topic based servers don’t work. Location based servers do work.
Ideally, municipalities will run relays as public utilities. Choose the relays closest to your location. Simple. nostr:note15u2dnsxdll360a8lmzthfme5w5gujq7djhwm3pz7meazjf4llw5qaglfs9
When you want to reach a lot of people then use twitter or threads or any of the "popular" networks. When you want to express your opinions without interference, use #nostr.
As more and more people start falling into that latter category, the weight will shift towards #nostr.

Respectfully, this is a cope. There will always be a vast majority of people that never even desire to say something outside of the acceptable discourse (Overton Window).
Walled Gardens have more engagement because they use algorithms to surface content that they know the user will find interesting.
There is no reason Nostr can’t do this other than the culture of Nostr being ignorant and discouraging good user experience.
Post.news is one of the new emerging twitter competitors. In terms of links from twitter it’s number two after mastodon, nostr is third.
They’ve got a tip system using fiat that is remarkably similar to zaps.

There’s no reason that nostr relays can’t pay users for their unencrypted content.
Seemingly, relays just don’t know how to monetize data yet. Who is buying etc.
Zapping is just good will, ad revenue is predictable and reliable.
When relays find a way to monetize unencrypted posts, they could definitely pay out content creators though
