People want to make bad choices without living with the consequences.

Sadly many will welcome it. When it's "free" and those who don't comply are locked out of services etc they'll cheer and when they introduce spending restrictions so those who are out of work can't buy cigarettes and alcohol they'll cheer louder. They'll be taught to hate the noncompliant, because if they don't hate us they might realise that they've been conned.

The big picture is that when you use stock android or iOS not only you loses freedom, but everybody around. If you save friends and family numbers, those personal details end in Google's and apple's servers at least. Your GPS and Bluetooth signals can denounce the position of others near you to their servers. Their backdoors can grab data from any app you use. Those are a few drawbacks I remember now, consider it.

There will always be some responsibility to manage your devices and OS'es, freedom comes with that. And that's exactly why people hate freedom.

You don't need to use it for any other activity in the app (that relay is off for all the other filters in the relay screen). There is just no other free option for search right now and without it search wouldn't work at all. :(

Honestly thought I’d like to see a lawyer argue that in court when I read it was legal tender for debts. Legal language and precedent is always tricky and circuitous. So I’d check with an attorney before trying it. Easier to just not patronize a business that doesn’t accept cash.

This makes open protocols like nostr much more difficult for anyone to censor, control the content, or take it down.

Freedom will win. We just have to build it.
