The ETF will be a gateway, I hope, for the 50+ crowd that have fallen for the 401k nightmare (401k is slavery yet I believed in it my entire working life). Now I'm getting out as fast as I can without massive taxes.

The LAST THING I want is Bitcoin in a IRA that goes WAY UP and I have to pay payroll taxes!

Of course if you bought Roth IRA or equivalent non-tax when withdraw 401k you 'may' be in better shape as long as Government does not change the rules on you (remember, Social Security use to not be taxed!).

Best to be OUTSIDE the system - Bitcoin in cold storage.

You're right.

Switching from the convenience shops to something more sustainable is doable, just the work of changing old habits.

The harder thing is to stop paying insurance, taxes, and so on. In reality, we can do this collectively, for just long enough to create a spark of change, but few are willing to keep that going if individually singled out to carry the losses/pain of that action.

We're too comfortable, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, just that the time for real seismic action isn't here yet.

How much metadata is leaked through posts and images/videos on Nostr?

As a very big fan of anonymity, is there anything I can do to enhance my privacy other than using vpn/alias? I am aware of tor but am not familiar enough with it.

There have been a few occasions where I have wanted to post interesting pictures from travels etc but am concerned about the metadata they may have attached.

Check my post/comment history. I know far too well what you are talking about here. #cashu is only meant to be used for tiny amounts of sats. If you use cashu for large amounts then you are doing it wrong. The bigger issue here is that there is no tax software for lightning.

Lightning is only easier to use if you're on custodial wallets or using LSPs like the majority of users. The frustrating task of running a LN node is abstracted away and done for them at the cost of self custody, and/or permissionless transactions, and any moderate privacy they would've had.

Everyone who uses custodial lightning anyway should just switch to eCash. At least you get very strong privacy AND can't be individually targeted for censorship. You can also do some neat things with it using cryptography magic like offline verification which isn't possible with LN.

For sovereign digital cash Monero is still unmatched atm and for the foreseeable future. Don't really see any competition.

What's an ideal way of setting yourself up for living on a bitcoin standard? I know running your own node and having your btc in cold storage is a basic minimum, but then what?

Tx fees will most likely be higher on layer 1 in the future, so I see using that for storing btc long term and rarely moving it. For daily transactions I think Phoenix wallet and the new ecash apps work great. But what about for mid-term holdings, like a years worth of expenses? Is cold storage using liquid a good enough option or would running your own lightning node be better?

If you're referring to The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous, it doesn't talk about how to live on a bitcoin standard. It focuses on monetary history and basically why bitcoin is the better money. Anyways, tax is theft.

ios users are puting npub.cash addresses in their ln address on nostr profile to receive zaps and redeeming them with enuts wallet
