I see lots of talk around here about economic models that are alternatives to the false dichotomy of capitalism vs socialism. Has anyone considered #distributism? I’m not sure how it would fit in with #bitcoin, but I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Money itself is not evil. It is just a tool. The desire / love of money leads to evil. This is greed.

There are a few reasons for this. It is where the phrase “to be in communion with” comes from. But most importantly it has to do with the recognition of the Real Presence - body, blood, soul, and divinity - of Christ in the Eucharist. Protestants believe communion is merely a symbol for Christ. As saint Paul said “For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord.” (1 Cor 11:29)

Yeah. It’s a big demarcation in the history of the Church. You can always tell which of the three types of Catholic someone is based on their opinion of the V2 council. Nonetheless, I encourage you to experience both Masses and come away with your own conclusions, especially in light of the Catholic belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

It is not Traditional because they don’t offer the Traditional Latin Mass. There was a big rupture after the Second Vatican Council where the Mass was changed significantly from the way it had been offered for nearly 2000 years. It is hard for me to say if they are conservative or modernist, since I have not been there in a very long time.

It’s not. It’s a beautiful church nonetheless. I was originally from Florida and I’ve been there a few times. Catholics can be divided in three rough groupings.

(1) Traditional Catholics who hold on to the faith as it was from the Apostles to the 2nd Vatican Council in the 1960s.

(2) Modernists like Pope Francis who welcome rupture with the past and accept all kinds of innovations, believing that the Church needs to “keep up with the times” to remain relevant

(3) Conservatives who believe in many of the traditional teachings, but try to find a middle ground that Pope Benedict XVI called the hermeneutic of continuity, that believes the new should be in harmony with the past.
