Recently discovered Bitcoli https://bitcoli.com/en/, it supports LN addresses, super simple, android only though, but it works.

Not to my knowledge... I've read some stuff about having relays update each other but it's a work in progress.

Meanwhile, nostr.wine (a paid relay) are running a filter that can broadcast your notes to the biggest relays and pull data for you from most public relays which addresses your concern.

https://github.com/nostr-wine/filter-relay/blob/main/README.md

That wasn't me!

This last one is me tho ⚡

Yeah... That's something that is still in the works.

But depending on the app you're using, you should be able to see which relays users are subscribed to. You could subscribe to some of the relays other are using.

If you want to explore Global, you're gonna need to pay for 3-5 paid relays (https://relay.exchange/), add then add them to your app relays.

Best way to find people is to look at followers/followings of accounts interesting for you to have a better Home/Timeline.

That's about it!

Once you have paid relays, no more spam/porn. You should decativate public relays too.

Just did the same too, I feel much better now.

Too bad Africans can't afford to use Bitcoin because of a higher floor than needed on transaction fees or spin up nodes due to high storage and bandwidth costs.

But at least we got JPEGs and miners can keep their shareholders happy.

Bitcoin needs to be as cheap and robust as possible. Bitcoin is becoming even more expensive to use now that there's a floor on transactions, nodes will become more expensive faster when they're already way too expensive for most of Africa.

We shouldn't worry about miners, there'll always be miners with access to cheap energy sources ready to work if there are transactions. We should worry about the cost of using Bitcoin for the people of Nigeria instead of accepting a floor on transaction prices.

Would it be possible to have a bot that notifies plebs here when a nostr space starts on https://spaces.nostrplebs.com/?

Been looking forward to this one!

We don't know how much it'll cost yet right? Might end up more expensive than we think?

We'd need to know the cost associated with running one of the big relays...

I welcome anyone who wants to store and route everyone else's encrypted data for free but that does not sound very incentive compliant.

In any case, this is not a conversation dude, you got to explain your points if you want to make some sense.

If I didn't pay taxes, I'd still need to pay someone to take care of my thrash, roads, etc... There'd be several providers and the best one would come on top, but I'd still need to pay someone to do the work, which is btw exactly how relays work.

You can choose to pay the best ones, and the ones with the worst service will be eliminated by the free market, but work deserves fair compensation right?

Are you proposing that they should provide this service for free?

Because that's how you get ads.

They store and route our data, so I guess they deserve some kind of payment for that work (which has a cost) right?

Maybe wouldn't be necessary if most users ran their own relay, but even then, there are still feature big relays would offer.

Hey @npub18kzz4lkdtc5n729kvfunxuz287uvu9f64ywhjz43ra482t2y5sks0mx5sz I'm very curious about the current cost associated with the relay you're running. Do you already some stats that can help you determine if the current access price is viable over the long term? Thanks

If spam cannot be solved for free here on nostr, then nostr's model will be similar to that of Twitter (although much cheaper and affordable): pay a few paid relays or you get spam and scammers everywhere.

I'm saying this while being convinced that relays must be paid, they route and store our data and that has a cost, simple as that, and I rather pay a few thousands sats than get ads and god knows what happens to my data.

I'd love to get some stats that help determine if paid relays are billing us enough to be sustainable over the long term...

Dunno if someone is up for hosting it but would be great to have a scheduled one maybe once per week or so.

Spaces is probably one of the reason people will still be using Twitter in the future (that's true for me at least).

I actually don't know of many other communities, especially so large, where such discussions can take place.

This is great.

The biggest issue I have with it is that people right now don't know what it is they're actually buying. Supposed buyers think they're buying a single Sat that is indisputably attached to a specific type of data... but that's not the case. What they're actually paying for should be made as clear as possible.

No problems at all with people buying this stuff and doing what they want with their money, but I kind of disagree with the idea that it's a fair transaction because of this confusion.

Actually, I'm always happy to see content other than Bitcoin here.

The network needs to be interesting for everyone to be a real success right?

It's set up by default for me, be sure to get >0.13.0 (https://github.com/vitorpamplona/amethyst/releases).

I think it requires Google Services though.

After that, if you go to Global, it should auto translate non english messages.
