#nostr is full of ppl quietly doing highly difficult things
In many different ways
Much love π

#nostr is the only part of my tech stack today that hasn't been completely retarded
Y'all must be doing something right
Google is a fucking joke
Tried to sign into a work related account for an urgent issue
Entered password
Clicked "Get a verification code at ************23"
Entered the phone number to verify the phone to get the verification code SMS on the phone
Entered the verification code
Told to open the Gmail app on the phone and tap number 7 on the phone
Did that
"You've tried to sign in too many times. For your protection, you can't sign in right now"
For my protection!
Not your keys = not your data = a complete fucking waste of time
Break it all now
Developers, users, we're all early adopters
Things breaking comes with the territory
And those were our choices
Rn the network is entirely ppl with faith and passion for the protocol
Ppl who can bear the pain of things breaking for a better future
Choices
1) break things now
2) break things later when nostr has millions of daily users and functional business models
3) set a broken protocol in stone forever and ever
The nostr protocol of spraying JSON to a bunch of relays is hilarious af
AND it works!
The nice thing is that responsibilities can be shifted between clients and relays as needed
And the line between client and relay can become blurred as needed
Complexity creates rigidity
Over-engineering tends to be more problematic than under-engineering
Bluesky is NOT easier to use than nostr!

You could build an AppView
Or use nostr & click remove relay button π€
The point of decentralization is user control
That means managing your network
We tend to gripe a bit but on nostr managing your network is just managing your relays
And that's pretty easy
On Bluesky managing your network means managing THIS

Bluesky only appears easier because users don't have the ability to manage their network
Few decentralized social network developers actually want decentralization
The inherent contradictions of Bluesky
1) we identify the problems of centralized moderation and implement a solution that lets users choose from decentralized moderation providers

2) we override our decentralized solution by *hardcoding* moderation and recommend that *other apps* (!) using the ATProto do the same

"to provide a strong foundation that upholds our community guidelines"
Means they want to control human behavior
Prediction: ATProto will never become effectively decentralized
bokeh
"The term comes from the Japanese word boke (ζγ/γγ±), which means "blur" or "haze", resulting in boke-aji (γγ±ε³), the "blur quality". "
Beautiful shot love those colours and light π€
Summer rain

Barista: "not having a scooter must be really inconvenient"
Me: "..."
I bought an account today, it's awesome π€
Ppl voted for the mother of parliaments & the world's largest democracy celebrated independence
Thoughts on democracy
Nothing controversial, I think
Kinda heavy content. But with resolute optimism.
