Did a morning ruck in the Coastal Reserve this morning. I had my watch tracking my path as well as my ham radio using APRS. You can see in the first Pic that I wasn't getting the coverage I was hoping for on APRS. Only 4 beacons made it to the repeater. There are some sand dunes that may have been blocking the transmission. Next time, a bigger antenna. Air temp was quite nice in the woods. I was in a long t-shirt and long hiking pants and very comfortable. No wind to be felt

I wanted to get a bit more exercise this morning, so rucked the coastal preserve. It takes a bit of effort wearing a ruck with weight along with a 60lb sandbag on my shoulders on a windy Forrest trail.

It's interesting to look at the beach after a series of winter storms carving a scarp into the dunes. The south side of the point shows geology and biology at work together. You can see how important beach grass is to the sustainability of the dunes with their roots to hold the dune together. A Northeast wind with air temp in the mid-40s.

Would be interesting just to use private/public key with the QSO loggers. ARRL has validation with their LOTW. but that is pretty closed. Would be cool to open this up. Not sure if you need block chain to do it. But would be interesting to have a public ledger that anyone could interact with. and use pub/priv keys for the validation between QSOs. This would be outside of transmitting over RF. If we transmitted keys over RF, we just need to make sure we dont have any issues with "encryption" since in the ham world, that isnt allowed.

Gotta love it, NOAA doesnt sensationalize winter storms enough, so the Weather Channel has to name storms. The blow we just got I guess was named Loraine. I am afraid that the state of meteorology is going to get us into trouble in the future. For the last few years, we have been getting fed "biggest season of the year" for the last 4 hurricane seasons to a point where we are just numb and it is hard to trust what you hear from the media any longer. As the weather media keeps crying wolf, eventually, everyone will stop listening and people will get hurt.

Wind shifted a bit earlier from the west. Have about a foot of water in the non bulkheaded areas of the backyard. There is a reason we had an elevated walkway put in.

After a wind sheltered walk in the woods I stopped and checked first jetty. Wind coming strong out of the Southwest at a consistent 15 mile an hour with gusts a bit heavier. We will see a peak sometime this morning after 9:00. The south wind is bringing so much moisture in that you can't even see the lighthouse that is only a few hundred yards away.

First round of seeds planted and in the nursery. 180 pepper plants (Reapers, Ghost Jalapeños, Chiltepin, PiriPiri, Thai) as well as carrots, radishes, tomatoes, squash, and eggplant. Will do another round of seeds next weekend. Of course, planning my garden for a summer that is supposed to have some tropical storms. The last 4 summers have been very mild for storms.

Both air and water temp in the low 50s at the point. A steady but light wind out of the Southwest. Tide coming in you can see that there's been a lot of sand moved from the last storm. The waves are surfable but I just don't have the gumption to paddle out. So took a nice ruck from 43 to the point and back.

Those who know me, know that I would rather be on the water (surfing, paddling, etc.) than be anywhere else. After my exercise this morning, I figured that I would check out the state of the beach in north Buxton. All the beach replenishment sand has moved on down the beach. The hotels are as exposed, if not more exposed than before the sand pumping.

We're right now probably approaching the biggest part of the storm. Too windy to walk on the beach so I trucked in the Buxton Woods. Even in the shelter of the trees I was registering at least 5 miles an hour wind out of the North. I then wanted to check out first jetty, wind heavy out of the North minimum in the 20 mile an hour Zone if not 30 and above. It looks like all of the fencing set up in Avon and North Buxton, to trap sand on the beach, is now around the jetty. So much for Beach replenishment.

The weather station that is highlighted is from the woods. the one that is darker is the one from the beach.
