It's powerful.

There are maybe 10 people in the world running their business this way. Does it give us an edge? Yes.

When you're paying for something in Bitcoin, the apex asset, you'd ideally want to try it before you buy it. But Bitcoiners aren't clustered in the same places, so most Bitcoin commerce happens online.

That means very little opportunity to sample.

You need social proof.

And there's no stronger signal than seeing someone zap a note to pay for an order.

If someone in your web of trust is willing to spend Bitcoin on a product, it's probably worth your time too. That zap is a purchase and an endorsement in one. It's a signal to everyone watching that it was worth the sats.

It also puts pressure on the seller.

That sale is public.

Everyone knows someone trusted you with Bitcoin.

Don't take that lightly.

Not every sale will happen like this, but the ones that do?

They give you something priceless.

Revenue that also works as marketing.

Your best customers are linking their reputation to yours.

You don’t have to ask for a review.

They already gave you one.

Zaps-as-purchases are rare today.

They're hard to earn.

Microstrategy hardly bought bitcoin during the bear cycle, in fact in the background they showed very little conviction and made a merely testimonial purchase.

I am almost certain that Microstrategy will be the cause of a bear market.

Heading to DC this afternoon to try to convince the NRC that they are too conservative when they perform Human Reliability Analysis (HRA) of nuclear power plant operators.

Best case scenario, in 3-5 years domestic nuclear plants may be able to avoid fines or reduce operating costs using updated Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) models.

It ain't much, but it pays the bills 👍

I have always been keenly aware that the time and sats that goes into supporting projects on Geyser, teaching with My First Bitcoin, all the work being done at nostr:nprofile1qqstkqt54cs6djkp5z5u3d9vd6la54kw29s9cv2mrqjfwz7zwhmj8xspz4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezummcw3ezuer9wchszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qgnwaehxw309ac82unsd3jhqct89ejhxtcdg6x8w is unlikely to make a monetary return on investment; holding bitcoin outperforms.

However, the unquantifiable return of spreading the understanding and appreciation of bitcoin has always been worth it. I should lean into this even more and give up my fiat-minded delusions!

For example, I stand to make a few thousand sats for every Turing Trust node I am selling on nostr:nprofile1qqsd73mv4ayg306an8r2wy82dt5585lxj0ffehr4cnhlrnakxjpehwqpzdmhxue69uhhqatjwpkx2urpvuhx2ue0w2s7vx. It's not really worth the effort if viewed through cold, hard sats.

BUT I provide U.K. bitcoiners with an easy and cost-effective way to run a node and each machine raises sats for the Turing Trust and for Start 9.

Given that I haven't sold a single machine yet, I will likely lose sats compared to if I'd just held in cold storage. But that's not the point. At the end of May I am going to meet James Turing and his team in Edinburgh to help with their custody and with every machine that I (eventually) sell it decentralises Bitcoin AND helps to send computers to school kids in Malawi.

What is that worth? Its priceless!

Now to find ways to combine speculative philanthropy with speculative attack...
