Yes, it’s too easy to game, especially likes, renotes and comments. Not sure if buzzbot does any filtering when random winner is picked. You can steer odds in your favor with other bots. Same goes for zaps, as I did with my test bounty

- people could zap themselves using different npubs

It is a tough one. Zaps have the potential to help force paid advertising models out into the light. So it is good to explore these models and see what works. On the flip-side individuals paying for attention and engagement seems a bit cringe.
Maybe this it is the kind of model that works well for companies as their incentives are clearly to sell/promote a product. Too many ‘influencers’ are just looking to make themselves the product, which is a carry over from the old Twitter et al. framework. We can do better.

Beyond the fact that snipers will just attack the top zapper spot, it'd be much better if there wasn't a DM invoice and instead replied with a comment on the post that the OP would just zap. This would give public confirmation that it was paid so users don't use tagging @buzzbot as a fake engagement trick in itself. I'd also let users customize their preferred % breakdown for what they want to see boosted and offer other functions instead of just Top Zapper which will just be gamed like I opened with.

It’s an interesting approach, in terms of incentives. If someone is purely financially motivated, they might zap 69% of the kitty (nice) to more-or-less guarantee a reward.
Or if you’re tryna play rough, you might zap 70% (I see you, nostr:npub12262qa4uhw7u8gdwlgmntqtv7aye8vdcmvszkqwgs0zchel6mz7s6cgrkj 😂)
Other users are incentivized to engage: it’s a chance at profit for next-to-no cost (other than perhaps a little bit of dignity, but many of us have bid dignity goodbye long ago).
And for the bot, all it takes is two users trying to win — by trying, I mean zapping a large portion of the reward — to ensure the house makes a profit.
I’ll be curious to see how this model evolves, especially when you introduce businesses with marketing budgets and “influencer” accounts.

The bot creator is doing well, taking a 15% cut of every note.
So in theory couldn't the owner zap enough to beat top bid, take the pot and even if it's a bid above 70% plus the 15% rake.
They could take the pot, but the rake is a fee. If you run a 1000 sat Buzzbot, you pay them 1150.
Let’s hope that at least some of those sats make their way over to a nostr dev or two 😉
I think distribution should be a setting to play with. Now it's more of a casino where the house often takes home a lot. But it would be nice to choose you want to reward comments, if you're not in it to profit of the casino.
