Augsburg Art Collections and Museums, Rococo Festival Hall in the Schaezler Palace

On Sunday, April 28, 1770, shortly after four o’clock in the afternoon, the Austrian Archduchess Maria Antonia and future French Queen Marie Antoinette arrived in Augsburg on her bridal journey to Versailles.

This was a very special day for the Augsburg silver merchant Benedikt Adam von Liebert, as on the same evening the daughter of the Austrian Empress Maria-Theresia inaugurated the magnificent rococo ballroom in his newly completed palace with a glittering ball.

This event made the Liebert Palace, which was later acquired by the von Schaezler family, a first-class sightseeing destination for all travelers to Augsburg. And it has retained this attraction to this day.
