I’m from a non-developer background but despise censorship and centralization, which led me to Bitcoin years ago. That said I was only vaguely aware of Nostr and conflated the Nostr network with Primal. I basically thought that Nostr was a censorship resistant social media and that’s it.

I heard an interview with nostr:nprofile1qqsdv8emcke7k3qqaldwv956tstu40ejg663gdsaayuuujs6pknw7jspr9mhxue69uhhqun9d45h2mfwwpexjmtpdshxuet59uq3xamnwvaz7tmsw4e8qmr9wpskwtn9wvhsdmlwnv on nostr:nprofile1qqsywt6ypu57lxtwj2scdwxnyrl3sry9typcstje65x7rw9a2e5nq8sprdmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucnfw33k76twwpshy6ewvdhk6qgcwaehxw309aex2mrp0yh8xmn0wf6zuum0vd5kzmqk8cne9 and was blown away by the Nostr ecosystem. Had no idea there were so many apps, critical use cases and future possibilities. And while many of the existing apps are useful, it’s the long-term potential of the network that honestly made it hard for me to sleep for a couple days when I first grasped what Nostr really is.

I’ve never tried to build a following on any social media and don’t have much of a presence on Twitter, but I feel completely different on here. While the zaps are awesome and definitely motivating, I’m even more interested in learning as much about the network and actually constructively contributing to it in whatever ways I can. My main motivation in using and helping build up the Nostr network is ultimately for the goal of freedom and human flourishing. May sound super corny, but I’ve found in myself and others that when we are motivated (or at least partially motivated) by meaningful, intrinsic drivers like that you tend to attract people that want to positively contribute to networks like this, not just passively consume. I think that’s the main reason why users in here tend to be so disproportionately hands on and engaged

The vast use cases are so hard to explain to people who don't know what a protocol is. The non-devs who actually use Nostr are the best people to explain Nostr to normies.
