People often think of scientists as the most independent minded thinkers of all.

The reality is that they have an extremely narrow band of research that is acceptable to conduct, and an even narrower band of conclusions that are acceptable to come to, lest they lose their tenuous standing in the community, along with their ability to provide for themselves and their family.

Prior to fiat, scientists were largely independent. Post fiat, they are almost all beholden to the State’s whims one way or another. Don’t trust. Verify.

I see ChatGPT as a 10x Google. It understands context much better than Google (or other search engines) and can give you pointers to that context that would take you much longer to find digging through search engine results. Especially in the SEO spammed world we currently live in.

But the writing ChatGPT produces is pretty pathetic and easy to spot in my experience. In its current state it feels like an excellent research assistant, but I’d never trust or use its output directly for anything I care about.

For 8 years I was a huge gold bug - classical libertarian maximalist. I’d argue with anyone that would listen that gold was better than #Bitcoin and it was going to zero. Got humbled like a lot of people. The hardest thing for me to understand was how Bitcoin was scarce - “how can it be scarce if anyone can copy the source and make a new one”. Answering that question is the real rabbit hole, and it’s not easy for a lot of people to get.

Lesson here is be patient with the newcomers. Everyone is on a journey and this year’s Bitcoin skeptics are next year’s maximalists. Be humble.

I'm guessing outright bans would boost grassroots Bitcoin adoption very much. Banning never works for if something is banned it must be interesting in some way. Fighting in that scenario would be just using bitcoin as normally as possible, no?

If the layer 1 "just works" long enough, and scarcity is the driving force of bitcoin valuation in fiat terms, then I think it is inevitable Bitcoin will "win" due to the halving mechanics alone. In my view Bitcoin has "won" if it's widely seen as a method for storing generational wealth securely and reliably in a hostile environment, which is certainly the case.
