Lol I haven’t figured out lighting wallet either. It’s not my thing. I’m the physical assets guy. Bitcoin is cool, and all. You guys like it a lot more than I do is all.
The common bond is an interest in the progress of Nostr. Beyond that I don’t believe Damus to be my community. It’s a good community for what it is though.
I think the point most people miss is with freedom comes responsibility. Free speech is no different, and with our information revolution in full swing people haven’t quite made it to the point that because we can talk about whatever the hell we want to in full view of the public does not mean we should.
For the moment most of social media boils down to controversy for controversy’s sake. Sure we could talk about black people shipping off to Africa, but why would we? What purpose does that serve, but to piss people off? Idk if that’s a dig at your comment. It’s just a meaningless observation of mine. Something I’ve noticed over the passed decade, or so.
The hashtags are helpful no doubt
It feels like I’m on all of them at this point. I really just monitoring the progress of a bunch of clients to see which ones are progressing in a good direction.
A short list would be
They’re ui kinda sucks, but they do have user created communities
https://zapddit.com/communities/discover
Very similar to satellite, but very buggy atm
It similar to Damus, but for whatever reason I see more diverse content there
Is doing some cool things with apps.
Seems to be the place for memes lol
https://www.austrich.net/nostr
I’m just digging through sites like this one, and trying everything I can.
It’s difficult to judge any client to harshly. Nostr is still really new, and has a long way to go. It’s just id like to see decentralization take root in a much large way than bitcoin can do alone. So I offer my constructive criticism.
I pop in once in a while to check on progress here, but tbh Idc about bitcoin. I don’t have anything against it, but it’s just not my thing. It’s saturation here is why I’ve moved to other clients. I do love the decentralized part, but I gravitate to clients that have a diversity of content. I’m just to adhd to enjoy the same things over, and over again
I wish it weren’t app only I hear it’s a good one
It is right now anyways. This is the green season. Check back in a month.
I’m not, and often get lost in the
hieroglyphics I see posted around Nostr, but I kinda like that, but I’m not the masses.
Content, and a wider range of it. From bitcoin to stupid cat videos. If you want mass appeal then appeal to the masses. Zaps, and dev speak won’t do that. In traditional social media models. Bitcoin, and dev speaks would fit in a group, community or a page to follow, and engage with, and not the entire social platform model. Because the masses don’t care about bitcoin. They care about politics, pornography, and stupid cat videos. Appeal to them and grow exponentially at the cost of diluting the content, but it would work. If not then keep the tight nit crypto, and dev community that currently is Nostr. Really either path is fine. It’s just which path would you prefer?
Because you can’t have both.
I do think there needs to be a nostr client that doesn’t focus on tipping. I don’t think Damus is that one. Everyone here wants that. So Damus could possibly implode if that feature was lacking here. For Damus it seems the better route to get off the App Store, and stick with the web, and then develop a client for the App Store that got rid of tipping for to appeal to the masses.
I did that once to see how badly Apple wants me to update. It’s starts off very civil like hey buddy I think you forgot to, and then progressively moves to a more aggressive posture like do this, or bad things will happen to your family. Eventually though my phone updated while I was asleep, and I thought to myself. Well self they did warn me that bad things would happen lol.
Apple went after Brave browser a while back due to the bat tokens. They remove them, but they’ve kinda just picked on them ever since. Idk man. This situation sounds very familiar. Maybe the App Store isn’t the best place for Damus, or really Nostr in general.
Posted from Apple iOS lol
They did the same thing to brave browser
If the world is to be decentralized then we’ll see way more of this. If Nostr does it better I’ll be here should be the motivation to keep moving, and improving.
We just got some instant ginseng coffee from the local Thai market that’s pretty dam good.
If it were a real Nokia you could pull it out of the water, and it would still be a hammer.

A Reddit transcription community will shut down over a 'lack of trust' in the platform

A group of Reddit volunteers who transcribe media from other subreddits are shutting down their community, in part due to changes the company is making to its API. The community, r/TranscribersOfReddit, will close its doors on June 30th, which is one day before Reddit starts charging for API access.
The group transcribes media from around 100 subreddits. Its aim was to provide some temporary solutions for accessibility features that are missing from Reddit, such as alt text, while imploring the company to address such "inadequacies," according to Rebekah Ginsburg, a Transcribers Of Reddit moderator. As The Verge reports, Ginsburg (aka u/halailah) is also the chair of the Grafeas Group, a nonprofit that provides the technology powering much of the community's transcription work.
"In light of recent events, we now recognize that Reddit corporate has demonstrated a severe lack of willingness to fix core issues with the platform," Ginsburg wrote. "It is clear that these problems are coming from the top, and we do not believe they can be fixed. Unfortunately, while this was an extraordinarily difficult decision for us, these circumstances mean that we can no longer operate this project."
Ginsburg added that "the API changes and the realistic limits on how much work we can take on and our lack of trust in Reddit as a platform and the clear disregard for accessibility from Reddit corporate" made it "impossible" for the team to continue the project.
While Reddit has said it will exempt some third-party accessibility apps from having to pay for API access, members of the community say apps such as RedReader, Dystopia and Luna don't have "sufficient moderation functions" for blind and visually impaired moderators.
Reddit declined to comment to The Verge on these issues. A spokesperson previously said the company was "exploring a number of things" related to accessibility across its platform. In the meantime, it seems that it'll soon be more difficult for some people to use Reddit.
Some communities I'm a member of have volunteers that will add alt text for an image in the comments or transcribe a short video. Still, the loss of a larger, coordinated effort to make Reddit more accessible is a blow.
Reddit said last month that it would start charging for access to its API, which third-party developers have used to build apps (such as ones for moderation and accessibility) that hook into the platform. The move caused an uproar in the community, and several third-party apps, including ones that tens of thousands of people use to access Reddit, are shutting down as a result of the changes.
However, Reddit is pressingahead with the new policy. CEO Steve Huffman also said he was planning changes that would allow members of a subreddit to more easily vote out a moderator who makes unpopular decisions. Some moderators have taken similar comments from a Reddit administrator as a direct threat, after thousands of subreddits went private to protest the API changes.
Reddit also reportedly removed moderators from subreddits that were suddenly labeled as not safe for work. Not only did those communities allow porn for the first time in protest against the API changes, making them NSFW meant Reddit was unable to monetize them due to its ad policies.

I took off. Idk if I was a part of a protest, or anything. It’s just the direction the CEO is Taking the company I don’t agree with. So I don’t want to do that anymore. It’s like when Coke changed the recipe back in the 80’s, and lost sales because of it. No one was protesting anything. It’s just no one liked it so they didn’t drink it.
I think ultimately that is the direction Redditors will take. Because the direction Steve is going with Reddit is antithetical to where Redditors would like to see Reddit go. So unless he can come up with a new clientele then I would expect to see his current one slowly dwindle.
