Oooo, yay. An hour of snow yesterday that did more harm to the roads than benefit to the ground. The dose of snow that fell mid day ended up leading to crazy black ice in town and led to numerous accidents at the commute time. Stupid warm winter refuses to actually freeze like it's supposed to. Thanks Pacific Ocean.
Wrestling practice starts next week and he is excited for it. I'm happy to see he has kept the stoke for the sport and it is a super good way for him to focus the hyper energy.

I've been dosing heavy on Vit D daily and have managed to evade the cloud of ick emanating from my boys. It's like trying to keep a cloud of mosquitoes from biting...
The entire "entertainment/sports" industry is built on the concept of distraction. A people distracted or enticed into infighting are FAR easier to control that a united congruent populace.
It's not the prettiest rubix cube but it did manage to come off the printer and go together correctly. Took a couple tries to set the supports right, I'm still figuring some of the proper setting, techniques, and methods out. Have to find the sticker set to print out on the Cricut now. The whistles I printed proved their power, I got over 110 db on each!

Mornin #Nostr
Finally we have some snow. Only a few inches and it began melting pretty fast, but it snowed. Spent the day watching LA Apocalypse Porn as the basin burned. We always said this would happen, even back in the 80s/90s we knew this was an inevitable outcome of millions of people living in a fire zone. Wild it burned to the ocean in Malibu.

⚡️The Eaton Fire in Northern Los Angeles has now exploded to over 10,600 Acres, dwarfing the Palisades Fire to the West which is still only around 3,000 Acres. https://video.nostr.build/947d679df022b1444a99d709a87833addb0e91442fcdf3d35a13f28c367de3aa.mp4

Can't help but watch the LA news about the firestorm. Crazy apocalypse going on
They are building a new flagship store 7 miles south of us which I am VERY stoked on. It will have the biggest fly fishing department of all their stores and a big guns and ammo area. BiMart is not bad, we have one 10 mins north in Deer Park I go to occasionally.
Snowy Morning #Nostr
Yesterday was a busy one but productive in that I got new tires on my truck and managed to get to the store in time to snag a case of ammo for WAY cheap. The adde looked like it HAD to be a misprint of 100 box max per customer... But it was true and for $9/bx. Apparently there were lines waiting for them to open an hour earlier than I was there. North 40 is a great company.
Got 3" of snow this morning in a fast moving storm that is already well past us into Idaho. Not sure if I am going to go ski today or not...

Nothing new is made to last, only the old school stuff was made of metal and would outlast cockroaches.
Here is the story of getting the LightningSpore S19k miner up and running and the learning along the way... It goes pretty in-depth, so I think it should be helpful for people who really want to know the details of getting a home miner up and running.
First I ordered my miner from KaboomRacks. Apparently my rep went on vacation and stopped responding to customers, so I thought I was elaborately scammed for about a week.
I got the miner finally, plugged it in to my 240V outlet that had long been waiting for it. The miner was loud! I knew this but obviously this wouldn't fly in a home.
My friend and I took the miner apart to clean the dust and grime, and to my surprise, this one was pretty clean. The S15 I won at auction with Denver BitDevs was grimey AF!
I quickly buy some Noctua fans to solve the fan problem. Then I realize I have a new problem...
The standard fan cables are 4-pin in-line connectors, but this miner includes 2 4-pin rectangular fan cables, and 2 4-pin inline. So I quickly try and find a fan adapter.
I order a fan adapter from Ebay, but upon closer inspection of the control board PCB, I realize that I can desolder the square connector, and I can solder in my own right angle linear connector. The pictures show the solder job. It should've be easy, but the PCB has large copper traces which made it difficult to heat up the solder. But I got it done.
Also meanwhile I debug the fan issue, I 3D print some standoffs, since the Noctua fan is much thinner than the stock fan, you cannot use the screws as-is or else it will poke inside and destroy a capacitor or short something out.
I also learn that since I am using custom fans, with a different RPM rating than the stock fans, the stock firmware won't allow the device to mine.
I go to install BraiinsOS on my miner, when I stumble into the funky world of Miner Control Boards.
I learn that, in addition to the laundry list of miner models out there (in the S19 series), XP, Jpro, Kpro, hydro, S19 vanilla, and more, there is also a handful of control boards.
So even when narrowing down to S19Kpro, there are 4 control board options, Beaglebone, Amlogic, Xilinx, and CViTek.
I learn that Antminer is actively trying to prevent custom firmware, and the firmware I am running is one of the firmwares that tries to get in the way. In general, I learn that CVitek is I think the newest, and most documentation doesn't always even mention that it exists.
Finally, I figure out a way to downgrade my firmware, so then I can use the Braiins tool to remotely install BraiinsOS.
Almost there I promise...
I discover my fans aren't good enough to run the thing at full power, which is fine I guess. BraiinsOS made it pretty easy for me to underclock it to 1500W, where it seems to be stable.
Lastly, even with this new firmware, sometimes I reboot and it goes back to the old firmware for a few minutes. I haven't yet determined if this is a problem.
Interesting. I've been wondering about swapping out the fans on mine so this is good info. 92db at the exhaust with the fans at max 50% and o/c'd 10% is just too high. It's in the greenhouse so we aren't getting blasted by it in the house.
$9/box sale for Norma Safeguard 9mm JHP?! Why yes I'll take a case! Thank you very much and I got lucky to get them as the pallet was nearly gone within the hour and a half they had been open.

Sometimes we do a thing with little expectations but get surprising results. Such was my casual check of the sound level of my S19 yesterday. It's obvious the thing is loud but I didn't think it would be anywhere near this high. This was right at the fans exhaust but still... 92db is crazy. The shots from my 10-22 only peaked at 116db at 2ft...

This is going to make for an interesting summer most likely if we don't get more low level snows.
Another predawn grain run yesterday morning and the sheep and birds are very happy to have the munchables. I'm slowly getting the garden coated in the grain and will have it more than covered by the time tilling season hits... Though it is tillable now since we have no snow or frozen ground...
I'd like for it to actually turn to winter at some point, this rain and mud is just annoying given it's January.

6 points from relegation and with the lack of form they have it looks like a given at this point.
GOBBLES #Nostr
Tom #turkey #butcher day yesterday and It was good to get him in the freezer. He was the instigator of their escapades to the neighbor's so now the hens should all stay close by. Over 7 pounds of breast meat which got cut to steaks. Our youngest wanted to help and learn for the first time which was great that he lost the squeamishness.
