Going to Mars is, as I've said before, a bad idea. It's very expensive in terms of energy and doesn't make sense except as a vanity mission.
Building long term orbital facilities around the Earth should be more important, and after that, colonizing the asteroid belt.

Journos are less trusted people in the US than used car salesmen because they apparently have a chronic ability to embellish and exaggerate their claims in a way that is not only contrary to what a trustworthy person would do, but an insult to any intelligent reader.
FYI the last Pew Research count of the part of the population that expressed significant positive trust in journalists and the media in general was ~13%, a historic low.
Making farfetched nazi comparisons won't help that at all, but journos are seemingly unreachable in their ivory towers at this point, and they'll rather crash into the ground thsn change their bad ways.
