No, you're wrong. You're acting as if miners have a choice. They don't. They must make blocks that the network accepts, or they're not miners anymore. If they make invalid blocks, *they* are splitting the chain - not the softfork.

Furthermore, their invalid blocks don't constitute a real chain: every time the valid chain gets ahead, all the old nodes will drop the invalid blocks and those miners will start over, with huge losses. The only way they can avoid this, is with a counter-fork.

The debate that Willy Woo has reignited about quantum computing and taproot is interesting.

While I believe that it will take many years and decades to see quantum computing as we imagine it, I do believe that taproot was a design flaw in every respect.

As I have mentioned many times, there is widespread suspicion that taproot was approved due to pressure from Core members who had stakes in mining pools.

But the truly amusing aspect is that taproot addresses are less secure than segwit addresses, significantly less secure, given that taproot addresses permanently display the public key.

A state attacker, for example, could collect Taproot addresses (and other vulnerable ones such as P2PK and Bare multisig/scripts with direct pubkeys) and decrypt their private key.

In segwit addresses (also P2PKH and P2SH/P2WSH), this is not possible, since the public key is not exposed; it is only possible at the moment of spending, which is when the public key is exposed, i.e., while it is in the mempool waiting to be confirmed.

This reduces the window to minutes and greatly reduces exposure to attack.

The example to follow is that of Signal and SimpleX, which improve their encryption algorithms with every step they take and prepare for quantum computing well in advance.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin is more concerned with allowing spam and shitty protocols like Citrea.

This has less and less of a future.

Bitcoin influencers will attempt to skip past the spam war and into the quantum computing issue.

I don't agree with that. I don't want them to use bitcoin's blockchain to store their spam at all. If the choice *was* "op_return or elsewhere," I would choose "elsewhere," and by it I would mean "somewhere that isn't bitcoin's blockchain." But in fact spammers have another choice: don't post spam anywhere at all. That is the outcome I prefer.

This is the fallacy of false dichotomy. You act as if spammers have only two choices: spam op_returns or spam more harmful places. But they have another choice: don't post spam on bitcoin at all.

For values larger than ~153 bytes, yes. But for values lower than that, inscriptions cost more because they require two transactions: the commit tx and the reveal tx. Whereas op_returns only require 1 transaction.

Core, whether through omission or commission, through the changes they instituted created ordinals regardless of whether this is #Bitcoin’s reality currently………

I personally do not see ordinals as a positive for Bitcoin given what that has done to the data storage on my full node, perhaps you do.

Enforcement should be cheap (running a full node), profiting should be expensive (Bitcoin mining)………..

Adding more data to the time chain increases the costs for node operators to run FULL nodes……

I know I personally have to upgrade my set up (memory constraints) due to what ordinals has added to the storage requirements which was caused by Core……
