I’ve never heard of Somatic Abolition… and let me know how you like the book. I’ve never read it— both of these sound interesting. 🥂 to the journey!
I agree— the world needs pastors with your outlook!
For me, understanding emotions is one reason why I read poetry— the best poems help us glimpse the paradox of a moment or experience. But mostly— I read because I love language.
I’ve always found the term “emotional intelligence” fascinating. How smart are these creatures we call emotions— some dominate while others lay dormant, some are influenced by our body chemistry, some by genetics perhaps…
I remember reading Gary Zukav years ago & he said to imagine emotions as water under a bridge… flowing
I agree. Power corrupts— why do some people feel the need to control everything? Even a genius is vulnerable to human emotion. We all are—
“The F.B.I. searched the home of the cryptocurrency executive Jesse Powell in March as part of a criminal investigation into claims that he hacked and cyber-stalked a nonprofit that he founded, three people with knowledge of the matter said.
The investigation focused on an allegation by the nonprofit that Mr. Powell, who also founded the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, had interfered with its computer accounts, blocking access to emails and other messages, the people said. Agents with the F.B.I. and the U.S. attorney’s office for the Northern District of California have been looking into Mr. Powell since at least last fall, three people with knowledge of the case said.”
Bridges & Tunnels— a Pittsburgh thing.

Yes— it feels personal now because of the frequency of the notes— which I noticed start to fade in the middle. This book reminds me of narratives I read during my lates 20’s & early 30’s— a time when I myself used to mark up my books more frequently (I still do occasionally) with notes (before my first Kindle/e-reader).
And this article I read years ago: https://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/02/opinion/sunday/scribbling-in-the-margins.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
As much as I try to resist— the person who marked up this book is grabbing my attention— so I digitally circled their note.

I don’t get a detailed history lesson in Peter’s illustrated version. I’m enjoying the intro— details & all. Intellectual Depth is honey to me.
“…important to understand the forces and philosophies that shaped it. Muslims invaded Iran in 637 CE. The Islamic conquest ended the Sassanid Empire and led to the eventual decline of the Zoroastrian - religion in Iran. Even though the majority of Iranians eventually converted to Islam, many aspects of their ancient civilization became integrated into the newly formed Islamic society.
Through the following centuries, the fluctuating relationship between free thinkers and those who followed strict religious dogma profoundly affected the development of poetry in Iran.” ~Sholeh Wolpé
My used copy of *The Conference of the Birds* by Attar translated by Sholeh Wolpé came in the mail today— but there are so many markings on the text by the previous owner. This will definitely influence my reading experience. http://nostr.build/av/840ea0adb3b8d5d6d93cce7a0129ef942bc2584750164512383e7b884fc87124.mov

Rare & Beautiful. 📸: spent time in the gems & minerals exhibit today at the museum.

You’re welcome. Poems are like songs. Not every tune appeals to everyone— yet it exists in multiple expressions to provide what art provides— cheers 🥂📖
