I’m currently in one of my heavens & bringing him home! #bookstr #pittsburgh #bookshop #Bakhtin #usedbooks

“When the teacher is a character out of the chaos…” ~Brodsky 🤷🏻‍♀️

A bird flew down my chimney just now (yes— I need to fix that) as I was reading Brodsky. I helped my little sparrow escape my house. Here is what I was reading:

“Pauses and caesuras are also metaphysical, for they are also forms of time. I think Ive already said that speech- and even chirping is nothing but a reorganization of time.” ~Joseph Brodsky http://nostr.build/av/9eb5ff1177ccdbfdf84c5530896bdddd64a0b9c65d054ddbedf51c081ae7d27c.mov

yes!— except, I feel the foam on my lips as well as the smell of milk & coffee.

— my copy of that book is sitting on my enclosed porch— may reread a page or 2 tomorrow.

Thanks for the memory! 📖

thank you so much! I was hoping for an info link to help me get started! Bookmarked!

It will take a few years for all of us to code switch “talk” between social networks! 🤣

I could connect them if I wanted— provide a link in the profile?! But I’m not super ambitious— just like the idea of having backups of things!

True 💜 My son showed me video of this just the other day!— looks amazing!

And Leonora Carrington was friends with Elena Poniatowska— but she also wrote about her own experience in Down Below. (Took this pic during a book shopping last Fall). #bookstr

Love this book so much— every summer — I reread a little.

“'How imprudent!' Peggy shrieks.

Kay insists that European works of art are at risk and that now, at this very minute, paintings from the Guggenheim collection could be in the jaws of a shark.

Worse still, Franco couldn't care less if his lunch were served on a Picasso with a delicious salad of sunflowers.

A different obsession was added to their terror of the Nazis: Leonora's incarceration in the asylum at Santander.

'I can understand that you might have lost your head, Kay says. At the age of twenty-three it must be difficult to be living with a German genius, so far from your family, and in a strange country.

In your situation I would have felt depressed, too. And what can be done in the face of war? One either dies or goes mad.

I've spoken with Leonora and want to offer her protection.”

'She is all skin and bones and there is fear in her eyes when she looks at the rest of us, says Laurence Vail.”

wow. Two new terms I learned by reading this article: “unjust enrichment” — had no idea this concept exists in a legal sense & “shadow libraries.” — 👀

My friends & family are on Facebook/Insta (not giving them up in this format for now)

Anyway, Facebook’s suggested groups for me today— probably all interesting, but the only groups I check occasionally are my reading specialist ones. “chapGPT for Teachers”— I will take a pass. I have nostr:npub1tsgw6pncspg4d5u778hk63s3pls70evs4czfsmx0fzap9xwt203qtkhtk4 to chat with for now. Although— there are some interesting tools that are being pushed into ed tech right now that I should explore.
