Leveling up my packing game + keeping my margins where they are at is a great combo.

Was brainstorming how to acquire packing materials for low cost, realized magazines and newspaper are great substitutes. This is what I spend an hour or 2 a week doing now 😂

Common Sense #Prepping. 🪓

1. Learn to stock, eat out of, rotate, and maintain a deep pantry and space freezer. Stock high end camping rations in storage for stretching supply in emergencies.

2. Keep 30 days of fresh water and a water filtration kit for fetching and filtering water from nearby. Source locations in good times.

3. Keep a steel rocket stove, hatchet, and some kit to fetch wood from nearby. Ensure hardy cookware to use on top. Keep kindling on hand.

4. Obtain and use a large lithium battery bank with solar panels for camping but also in an emergency. Learn to run your space freezer and fridge off of it. Get bad and disting fan to keep things cool. Get a lithium motor bike that can be loaded in a truck.

5. Do an area study of your location. Print a map and mark key areas. Determine a bail out location that you can use periodically. A campsite is a great idea, or a cabin. Vacation there. Plan routes. Get your bail out bags setup in the garage.

6. Practice firearm proficiency. EDC a carry gun. Go to the range. Build a battle belt. Learn to clean, maintain, etc. Involve the family.

7. Build med kits at home. Treat your own cuts. Animal bites. Stock meds for infections (ivermectin, fenben, doxycycline, itraconazole, CDS, methylene blue). Become like a little family practice and improve over the years.

8. Avoid the prepping scene. It's an entire industry designed to scare you and waste your time and money. Think wholesome capable boy scout culture, not freaked out conservative gun guy.

These are all common sense, highly useful things that can be leveraged in good times and bad developed in waves over years.

If you sprint just once a week for something like 5x100 at even just 60-70% of capacity, you are already doing what 95% of males over 30 don’t do.

Don’t lose the capacity to do what you did naturally when you were a kid. At the same time, don’t be dumb and injure yourself. Be smart and play the long game.

Earlier this year, I had several weeks of chronic back pain, right under my shoulder blades, and I could not figure out why it kept coming back. Even after a deep massage, the pain would return. Nothing fully reset the area.

Then I spoke with a friend who is a physiotherapist. She suggested something I had never considered: it might be my breathing. For whatever reason, I had slipped into bad breathing habits. I was no longer fully expanding my lungs, and that meant the muscles under my shoulder blades were not getting stretched with each breath. They were tensing up, locked in place.

I was also beginning to experience a bit of diastasis recti after recovering from a hernia. Once again, the culprit seemed to be my breathing,specifically, the fact that I was not exhaling completely. I was only working with the middle third of my lung capacity, never fully emptying or filling my lungs.

Whenever I sprinted or did intense cardio, the pain would ease, but I assumed it was because of warmed-up muscles. In truth, it was the breathing that helped. Deep, natural, forced breathing.

Since then, I have been consciously retraining myself to breathe deeper and exhale more fully. It takes a little time for the effects to become automatic again, but it works. Posture improves. Pain fades. Energy returns.

Bad breathing sabotages posture, energy, and muscular function. Fixing it changed everything.
