Got a smart home doorbell installed a couple of weeks ago (on behalf of the home owner who gets it for free from builder).
Disconnected it from wifi immediately after install since these things are not to be trusted.
One week later I get an email from it saying its battery is low and I have no idea how it did this. 😐

It sounded a bit muddled. It’s true that apps on iOS can’t run daemons therefore can only receive a notification (when not running) through a server that integrates with Apple’s push servers which makes them for sure not fully decentralized.
That’s not quite what he said, so I’m just grasping here.

They don’t agree because studies are really hard to do properly. Most - and I’m talking like 90% here, are crap. So they fall back on theory and argue and get paid for holding on to opinions of one sort or another. Doctors don’t even know root causes of heart attacks.
