It’s funny, but to be fair, plants very very certainly have a lower level of consciousness than animals.
Guessing it’s the same as anything, you hash a message and achieve something specific in the hashed output - often leading zeros. The more unlikely the output, the harder it probably was. I saw something the other day where Nostr messages got PoW added to them to filter out spam.
