They want their other investments to support their pharma interests, as well.

Wow, I know Muslims are coming from a perspective different from my own, but they are right that schools have no place teaching Muslim kids controversial or inaccurate information about Islam.

It felt like there were a few years when schools understood that their place was to be neutral and stay out of religious and highly personal matters. I guess something happened to change that.

Right. I don’t think many people have a positive impression of missionaries; I certainly don’t. This couple (Mr. and Mrs. Singh) seem to be Indian, though, and the law cited is from 2021.

Most of the problems of missionaries (especially any sexual abuse) could probably be addressed by narrower laws that apply evenly to everyone. Then, we would be down to the act of persuading people to change religions at all, and especially bribing poor people to change religions by offering meals and other rewards. I suppose I can see how it’s a sad thing, if people think their old religion is better but are just so hungry. On the other hand, if a country is letting people go hungry at all, it probably should have no say in whether people are allowed to sell their souls for a hot meal.

A Watertown ordinance also prohibits “sexually oriented conduct” with children, but it’s unclear whether the pride event violated that or any other local ordinance.

It doesn’t sound like these laws are often enforced, and I also don’t know for sure if the drag performances were lewd enough to meet the standards of the state law or local ordinance.

About the young women with colorful hair, nose rings, and vocal fry, I didn’t necessarily mean it because they’re gender non-conforming; it’s just because they look like trend followers. However, I suppose it’s largely one in the same thing.

That’s a good point about women of our older generations having long been gender non-conforming. I would have been wearing the same badges you were. However, even my conservative Christian grandmother had short hair and wore slacks! It was once completely normal. It took Millennials and Gen Z to suddenly think that “woman” = lipstick + high heels.

This is not relevant to anything we normally talk about here, but the fact that this happens in India’s largest state (and eleven more besides) was news to me.

I would agree with the part about force or coercion, but “misrepresentation” (given that I don’t believe any religion accurately represents reality) and “undue influence” seem very vague.

The part about putting young children in prison with their mothers may be well intended, though if another family member is available and the mother prefers the child be be placed with him or her, I would hope that this could be arranged.

Very good point. I don’t care, either. However, the combination of big corporation + the type of person who usually promotes trans ideology (which this guy looks like to me) does set off alarm bells in my mind. It’s sort of like if there is a young woman with colorful hair, a nose ring, and vocal fry, I think, “Here we go.”

Yes, that really should be a separate question. To me, the question is whether the federal government taking my money and giving it to the CDC so that it can concoct ideas to make me less lonely. The answer to that is that I most definitely do not.

Agreed, and preferably, find out long before the engagement whether this is the sort of thing he would do. I know it’s hard to find a good man, but being with a bad one really is worse than being alone.
