I mean I am totally down for this. Would be a throw back to my ancestors leading their army during the crusades. Where the fuck do I ever get tailored up for a custom fitting chainmail and suit of armor nowadays?
I can blacksmith up my own sword, or pay a visit to my old teacher for a custom one. But I don't think he does the whole crusader fashion wear.
It really needs to be. It would make things so much less complicated for Nostr users. Open up a whole wide world of compatible Foss wallets too.
Not having to worry about self hosting lightning nodes, finding a reliable lightning wallet service provider, or which ecash mints are trustworthy.
Just pure 100% organic all natural Bitcoin. Like good old farmer Satoshi intended.
Ugh. No more excuses. No more procrastination.
I actually have to do some coding now.
This FOSS isn't going to finish itself.
No I am not going to let an AI agent do it for me.
Handcrafted artisan code is the way for me.
See you later Nostr.

I did. The technology is cool. Don't get me wrong. Not knocking the project at all. I am very neutral in this situation, because I am not well versed in the underlying technologies of cashu, lightning, or even bitcoin. I am just an advanced user trying to share wisdom and make memes while trying to earn an honest living on Nostr while I am unemployed.
I am just not the type of person who likes custodial anything. Even if in your eyes that makes me an inept dumbass who just doesn't get it. I've been stabbed in the back more times than I can count. Rug pulled by multiple crypto exchanges.
At this point you can only get beat the fuck up with custodial options before you say hey, maybe I should just take this bitcoin, magically turn it into off-lightning network bitcoin, shove it in a trusted non-custodial wallet, put it in a hard drive, and have a well documented boating accident to lose it like the good lord intended us to.
Custodial + Best Privacy You Can Get = A name wrongly or unsuitably applied to a person or object (Misnomer).
Now while from a technical standpoint you can make something private and give it to someone to hold onto for safe keeping. The best privacy I can get is non-custodial and in my own hands.
Sounds like a bit of a misnomer.
While I can't say that I am in any better of a situation right now using Fountain.fm as a stop gap measure. Custodial anything quite frankly terrifies me a bit as someone who has lost the ability to trust anyone.
Thanks for the clarification.
That I hope is the situation. I am having a weird one where the app auto-crashes upon login. I reinstalled it onto another computer, but I have no indication of whether the channel was closed, or funds are gone.
Leave it the fuck alone Whit.
It is already fucking beautiful artwork.
Feel like I am watching a Bob Ross episode right now. Where he creates something so amazing, but then goes and fucks it up, because there is 10 minutes left in the show.
Um... I may have just lost all my bitcoin on Alby Hub.
Still waiting to find out if it is, because the channel closed on me without any prior notification, or if it just vanished into the void.
I just hear all this debating constantly back and fourth of lightning, ecash, lightning, no ecash!
All I am really thinking is. Why the fuck are people so impatient?
Let's go back to our roots and give Nostr users the 3rd option.
Traditional good old fashioned no non-sense, no bullshit, regular bitcoin address fields on their profiles to copy pasta for manual transactions to support your favorite users on Nostr.
So what if it is a little slower.
Patience is a virtue and I believe it is worth waiting for.
Please elaborate in greater detail why.
I've been debating making the switch to cashu, but now with this post, I would like to be well educated on the subject matter.
What kind of effect does it have on the body?
It was brought to my attention that only running your self hosted alby hub when you need to use it is a bad idea, because your lightning channel can get closed on you by your partner.
I then rushed to turn on my machine. Booted up my virtual machine where the alby hub desktop was located. Then as soon as I try to open the app it immediately crashes after a successful password authentication. Tried opening it through the terminal to see of there was any error information and there was none. Just repeated crashes.
I then proceeded to install alby hub desktop onto KDE neon natively outside of a VM thinking maybe it was the virtual machines fault, because it was migrated to a more secure base system. Once I got it to work after jumping through dependency hoops to get it started. My balance vanished and all I had was transaction history.
There is no indication that the channel was closed. No warning that it was going to be closed. When I checked my emails there was notifications to turn it on, but no threats that it will be closed.
So here I am. Working with software that either closed my channel, or lost my funds. No indication of when or what happened. Hoping that some indication of maybe it showing up in the on chain wallet someday, but I am not giving my hopes up.
Went to the live chat support. Waited 2 hours for the first response. Then another hour for them to respond to my answers. Only to get told that I am too advanced of a Linux user for using alby hub in a virtual machine. Followed by that they can't be expected to support everything.
They then gave me a copy pasta how to recover your account article, which is not what I needed, nor asked help for. Their very smug reply that made me feel like oh well you are up shits creek. Good the fuck luck getting your bitcoin back.
It was not a shit ton of bitcoin, but it was all of my earnings for wisdom, sweat, and memes on Nostr for several months. It hurts to not go with your gut and not use a piexe of software. Only to then lose everything you earned while getting a condescending virtual slap in the face from your support team.
So with this type of sub par shitty experience what would you expect me to say about self hosted alby hub?

Do you have a link to this recipe?
Never had it before.

Now I kind of want to see if you still have it in you. Those styles of dancing are awesome.
I've never bought an NFT, but I did make a couple for free and sold them to dumbasses at a live auction for 75 fiat cuck bucks once.
We use to tell newbies that if you drank it all you would get higher. Always good for a good giggle. I know what that tastes like, because I was once a newbie too.
Overall though, glad I quit smoking. I still like edibles and especially Rick Simpsons Oil on rare occasions. However after 25 years of smoking 1-7 grams daily. It takes a toll on your lungs.
Humans were never designed to breath so much smoke for so long. My lungs are finally starting to heal now.
You all do realize that they are forcing the prices of bitcoin down before the announcement of the gold status in fort Knox right?
After then you are going to see a run on bitcoin the likes of which you have never seen before. As millions of dumbfucks realize their money isn't backed by anything and the dollar is toliet paper.
The even funnier part is that the common person still thinks their money is backed by gold. Even though it hasn't been that way for decades.
What the average person understands about economics is so astoundingly stupid. It boggles the mind trying to comprehend that level of ignorance.
I agree with everyone except Linux Mint.
Download etherape. Monitor the network connections for 20 minutes. Research all the connnections it makes. Then you will understand why this Linux Distro is untrustworthy and sketchy as fuck.
