But also people do it on purpose, or as a way of protecting themselves *without* it being a trauma reaction that's difficult to control. An some people are malicious and vindictive when they do it.
As an emotional abuse survivor I am conscious of being extremely sensitive to this behaviour, which I find very difficult to tolerate. I'm not commenting on how people generally regard it>

I always look askance at a doctor dismissing patient's 'anecdotes' about their experiences after being misdiagnosed for 7 years, but especially women's. It makes me.lose confidence in the doctor, not the anecdotes.
Went outside to work on Butt Sculpture (a physical activity the OH person would probably say is WAY out of bounds) and the panic that's been with me all afternoon and mist of this morning abated almost immediately.
My heart rate monitor also shows my heart rate dropped like a cliff edge, and even though it still went up again later, it wasn't to the same levels.

But seriously, the grey clay filled in the cracks really well. I am ready to move on to the final stage of sanding.
After that, I'll do him all over with a damp paint brush to make any fibres sticking up lay flat. Then it's in with the white paint (bye bye stretch marks 🤞) and finally the glaze.

I think people just can't help wanting to talk about themselves, and when they see a topic that's not for them, they just breeze past it and try to make it about them, without thinking about how it sounds on the other end.

I like it that way. Like you say, if you're enjoying a book, it's no bad thing if it keeps going - I want to KEEP enjoying it as long as possible.
I can't read a novella in a day unless it's like, all I do. But I wouldn't want to. Sad times for a whole book to be gone in just a few hours.

When I was a child, I would drag out books I enjoyed so they wouldn't be over. Maybe some of that carried over into adult life 😁
