Altman’s fission company’s design is specifically using conventional reactor waste fuel that’s processed and reused to power them. So those reduce nuclear waste, not increase it. In pausing the Oklo design (Altman’s fission investment company, he has a fusion and a fission investment) you would actually increase nuclear waste since it’s the only company in the US to publicly announce an effort to recycle fuel on a commercial scale.
Gates fission company has announced they are using the same type of fuel and the only logical source would also be recycling but they haven’t publicly confirmed it. So likely recycled but TBD.
If we were sane we’d just build nuclear power plants like crazy.
BRÆKING: Greenpeace continues its SEXIST anti- #Bitcoin campaign, releasing new video about “Bitcoin BROS.”
NEWSFLASH to Greenpeace misogynists: there are WOMEN in Bitcoin, & Bitcoiners will not stand by while you ERASE them.
Please repost if you think Greenpeace is sexist. https://v.nostr.build/8G8mv.mp4
Just my opinion: they’re only making themselves lose credibility and Bitcoin gain credibility.
CTV is directly upgradable to TX Hash and potentially other larger covenant proposals.
I am so frustrated with opposition against CTV because you want bigger and broader covenants. If we activate CTV and the market decides it’s insufficient, we can still directly upgrade to a broader covenant.
CTV is a great compromise between team slow and steady and team go fast. It’s highly constrained and simple and has been code complete and tested literally for years. But it can also be upgraded directly in the future to bigger covenants that team go fast wants. Saying only big covenants or nothing is just not a realistic way to gain broad support in Bitcoin for a proposal.
nostr:npub1cvqlzvmjercdn0ypsmv8f7j9lge6ahsnueh5rparh53wuswftv4q49yjt3 Thanks for using P2WSH!! This is very under appreciated. P2SH sucks! Any other multisig provider using P2SH in 2024 should be embarrassed.
There’s a wide range of opinions here. I am of the mind that you can still use it as part of a multisig quorum. I’d personally be a little hesitant to use as a single sig. However if you never updated the firmware after their Recover service was announced you are probably fine even in single sig.
overall, if I had a single sig and a decent sized stack, personally I’d rather spend the money to switch hardware wallets. For a small stack I personally wouldn’t sweat it.
Each person has to decide based on their situation.
It’s so frustrating how Ledger chooses to shitcoin, track everything, etc. because they have some terrific BTC engineering and documentation. Just read an old 20+ page blog post on mainly on mini script and it is so well written and helpful, but then a page over its like BUY THIS DONKEY COIN AND LET US TAKE YOUR KEYS WHILE YOU’RE AT IT. 🙈
I think we actually agree on almost all of the underlying circumstances and just view the implications differently. I definitely think you have a fair perspective.
Are you aware of a way to manually verify the underlying math of the cryptography and zero knowledge proof without seeing the data behind it? Importantly this is distinct from just having a zero knowledge proof and trusting that the underlying math of that proof is sound without seeing the data behind it. eg I read an academic paper that says ZKPs are sound therefore if I have one, even if I cannot see the underlying data, I know it is sound.
I’m totally open to this being wrong and such a tool being available and I think eventually it may be. But in talking to devs and reading multiple shitcoin papers on the subject I have found no evidence to the contrary. I absolutely don’t want to pass myself off as an expert but tried to have put some sincere work into understanding at least at a non technical level.
I find process often rapidly becomes an excuse not to think and just point at words on a page as a substitute for actual thought and effort, eg every government worker ever.
Building ZK (zero knowledge cryptography) into the Bitcoin Core code itself would mean we go from millions of potential app devs being able to understand, audit, and verify the code to only a tiny handful of cryptographers on the entire planet can truly understand and verify the code and count/supply of Bitcoin. A tiny group of people are easy to control. You cannot control every one of the millions of app devs worldwide who can read C++ or Python.
The roughly same mental model applies to most base chain advanced cryptography privacy proposals, eg you lose broad understanding and verification. You risk another Bitcoin Dark type situation (not a perfect comparison but general fuckery with the supply in a covert way by insiders).
Maybe this is a more realistic possibility way in the future. And ZK stuff can be great when built on top of Bitcoin, but putting it into the base chain due to a panic over privacy is short term thinking and wildly misguided.
WE ACCEPT CROWDHEALTH ONLY
It’s also not move fast and break things. This was done successfully at massive scale in the 1940s and 1950s before modern equipment or computers. It’s just fiat mindset to not recycle the fuel and instead throw it away when 99%+ of the energy is still freely available.
The US has built 3(or more if you count those just at research and not commercial scale) reprocessing facilities but they were mothballed. Savannah river is still active but only processes a small amount for scientific research. So these facilities operate and/or exist and can restart with little money, time or effort. We literally have the infrastructure already and have run it successfully for decades, we just chose to turn it off. Alternatively we could ship to friendly nations such as UK, Japan, France, etc where they have active facilities.
Trying to use this has shown me: 1) nostr:npub1aghreq2dpz3h3799hrawev5gf5zc2kt4ch9ykhp9utt0jd3gdu2qtlmhct is way behind nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll, on Umbrel there is no way to do backups in the GUI or of all your apps(would need to CLI into each one, so no pleb can do that), 2) Core Lightning is awesome and LND is way behind on important features. nostr:note10q9rgteufq60waz2c2t07dlg9pak9qxxagxurpshklcn6xk5slxsr35chq
Fusion waste has an extremely short half life, eg gone in 10 years even if you do absolutely nothing. Traditional fission reactors’ “waste” can just be used as fuel for the new generation of reactors, and if not that it can be reprocessed. We simply choose not to reprocess. It’s been done abroad in places such as France for many years. It’s a problem of will not science. It used to be the default: https://www.powermag.com/u-s-spent-nuclear-fuel-reprocessing-may-be-making-a-comeback-heres-why/
Setting aside IF it should be activated, would love to hear about thoughts on the “how” - signaling, activation methodology, etc. 🫡
Single issue voter against this. I don’t reveal the number, gender, or age of my children but if the government tried to draft any of them I would flee America. There has not yet been a base layer privacy proposal where the fully transparent audit function GETUTXOSET can coexist with fully confidential base layer transactions.
However there are huge improvements coming with silent payments, payjoin, and L2s in general. Privacy is improving.
GM! Fwiw cutting down to 1-2 alcoholic drinks per month over the last two years has dropped my high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) about 97%. Crazy how bad alcohol actually is for you even when consumed in modest amounts. Highly recommend. Nothing like blood tests to prove it.
It largely already does, people just don’t realize it
For Father’s Day I am locked out and the whole family is asleep. 😂😂
For those of you who are dads, How do you want your kids to remember you when you are gone?

🫡Can always go as a nym and wear big sunglasses and/or mask.
Not a sin to just have a good time and enjoy good company.
Always great to have more builders but got to have plebs as customers and fans too.
In defense of conferences and attending them: if you don’t have more non-builders than builders, then the builders won’t have profitable and sustainable businesses. They just have a hobby. You need a large audience if potential customers to have a successful industry of any type.

I've been feeling burnt out lately, despite the absolute privilege of being able to develop on nostr, so for the first time in probably around 8 years I'm going to take a 2+ week vacation this summer. No code, no nostr, no email.
This will hurt me more than it will hurt you. But it'll allow me (Lord willing) to come back fresh and ready to tackle the next steps of making Coracle the nostr client it needs to be.
Not sure yet what I'm going to do with myself for two weeks — but I have a hunch taking my 8 year old son on a backpacking trip might be part of it. I've always wanted to see Mt Rainier up close.

Breaks, even from stuff you’re passionate about, can be important 🫡🫡
GM! We are winning so hard I can’t even keep up. Presidential candidates want Bitcoin and bitcoiners votes? Someone realized we are the largest American single issue voting block not stuck to one party in the history of our country. That’s power and influence right there.
