Does anyone else love the aesthetic and vibe of the 60's and 70's? My wife found the game of Slip Disc, a game manufactured by Mattel in 1969, at a garage sale this weekend.

That particular one is a Cherokee Purple, but we have 8 varieties planted and all are producing fruit.

I learned a valuable lesson today in the garden. I killed an insect that I assumed was feasting on a wilting pepper plant. After I researched it, I learned that it was a North American Wheel Bug nymph (Arilus cristatus) and was actually a beneficial insect. It was probably there to eat the insect or caterpillar eating the plant.

I attended the Okie Homesteading Expo today and watched a demonstrations on rabbit and chicken dispatching and butchering and an intro into raising feeder pigs.

The Hopper Popper was used to dispatch the rabbit

The Yard Bird was used to dispatch the chickens

Today i harvested Zucchini, Yellow Summer Squash, Cucumber, Jalapeno, Parsley and Mint from the garden. We are making Dirty Rice with the Zucchini, Squash, Jalapeno, Parsley and some Deer meat from a friend. The Mint is used to garnish a cocktail made with Hibiscus and Lavender Simple Syrup, Gin and Tonic.

I had to build a quick chicken run from fencing panels and some plastic sheeting. I used to free range my chickens but they like to eat gardens. I will be turning this into a tractor sometime soon. I've noticed since I've stopped free ranging the chickens they don't lay as many eggs. Hopefully a little more room will help.

Day 48: #grownostr initiative

I thought I would switch it up today with goats and ducks. Two years ago I'd never cared for any animal besides house pets. We now have chickens, ducks and goats. We've had other animals like Muscovy Duck, Guinea Fowl and Rabbit and learned things from all of them. Sometimes you just have to jump in an learn as you go.

There is a lot of activity and growth in the garden today. Not only did i see the first honey bee I've seen this year, I also saw this beautiful Eastern Comma or a Question Mark butterfly on a tomato leaf. I read they both love Hackberry trees, which are abundant on my property.

The mint and parsley grew back from last year. I guess this will be my new herb bed. All I can think about is all the mojitos im going to drink this weekend.

Maybe potassium deficiency in the soil causes poor root development. I was questioning low flower production as well...which if i remember correctly are both potassium deficiency issues.
