Nostr is opaque to new users. In ActivityPub it's easy to judge instances because usually their rules are clear and their blocklists are public. It's pretty much impossible to judge Nostr relays in a similar way. Every relay looks the same to a new user.

I regularly search "pedo" to find conversations about pedophilia, but lately I've stared turning off images, videos, and profile pictures when doing that. Child porn make me feel funny, and I prefer not to see it, even if it's technically by "accident."
Unfortunately I found that Amethyst doesn't have a setting to turn off profile banners. I also suspect that the client still downloads the media in order to display a blurred version, when I would much prefer that it doesn't dowoad any media in the first place. I'll probably mention these to Vitor once I update my client eventually.

It's not surprising at all to me. If someone wants to post child pornography then text based notes aren't very good for that. At the moment, Nostr's image hosting functionality is fairly centralized and moderated, though I've heard some people who want to change this.
Personally, I hope this doesn't happen. If Nostr has to move to Tor, or if people end up accidentally committing crimes during normal browsinf (fetching child pornography in order to display in notes) then those would be huge barriers toward Nostr's growth and adoption.
There are alreadly platforms capable of hosting child pornography without getting taken down. I think there is no need for Nostr to become a decentralized, censorship resistent media host.

To be honest, even though you say you have no interest in engaging, I admire you for continuing to bring up these topics. One of my personal goals is to be exactly like you in that way. No matter how confident I am, and no matter how much I learn, I want to always keep bringing up topics that will let me see responses from people who disagree with me. They should have forked it to remove zaps entirely. I'm not interested in getting paid to tell people what they want to hear. The #v4v #valueforvalue model is fundamentally flawed. The value obtained from learning other people's perspectives is impossible to measure, just like the value obtained from friendships. All zapping does is suggest that you don't give a shit about learning new perspectives, and suggests that you are using the platform for more hedonistic reasons.
