Wearing her ears up today 🐶

Agreed. You can give helpful and constructive feedback without being a dickhead about it. Honestly I think it’s more of a reflection on them - people who feel the need to put others down generally have very low self esteem and self worth. The human condition sure is interesting! 😬

Your doggy looks remarkably like my doggy! Brindle doggos for the win! 🐶

It’s just another form of rent seeking. It takes a tremendous amount of personal fortitude to resist the temptation to sell out when everyone around you is doing just that…

Sad to say but pretty much everyone can be bought for the right price. There are some genuine people out there though, and the bitcoin community appears to be much better at resisting the temptation to sell out (though a few people have over the years).

You are right though, nostr or bitcoin doesn’t solve for this sort of human behaviour. Some folk will always be corruptible, for the right price…

The Nostr protocol is a thing of beauty. It’s simple, extensible, and effective. Within just 6 hours of coding I’ve already been able to build a rudimentary client as part of a new foss project I’m working to bring nostr to the command line for the terminal nerds.

Twitter and the like cannot compete with this. Open protocols will always beat the closed ones, in the end.

I believe this technology will change the world, along with Bitcoin and Lightning. I have hope for the future of humanity with these tools.

Apparently there’s already an ā€œANTcoinā€. šŸ™„

There’s a native tribe in Brazil that has this coming of age ritual involving being stung by hundreds of bullet ants 🐜

Apparently the sting is so painful it’s equivalent to being shot (hence the name)

Screw that!!!!!

I agree - the fact that it’s an open and extensible protocol that anyone can build clients and/or relays for us a complete game changer. I believe it will displace the closed systems within a few years once the ecosystem really starts to build out and users migrate over.

Haven’t been this excited about a new technology for a long time….

Started working on a nostr client for the command line - for those of us like me who live in a terminal most of the time and would love to have a nostr embedded into a tmux session in their terminal.

Mostly just doing it for a hobby outside of work, and to learn the nostr protocol, which is throughly awesome in its design and simplicity. Will open source the code if anything usable comes from it down the line.

It’s easy to look at the world as it currently stands and be disheartened, but honestly I’m starting to think this might be the most incredible time in history to have been born. What an incredible period of time to bare witness to history, and it’s only just got started! No doubt it will be a rocky road ahead of us but I think truth always wins over lies, in the end, and bitcoin is absolute truth.

Yeh, it looks that way. People can’t go on with high inflation + high interest rates on mortgages - something will break. My fear is that a lot of folk will lose their homes, big property developers will then swoop in and buy a load of distressed property for cheap, as the banks try to offload it, and then the number of people forced into life-long renting just increases even more. It sucks that housing has become an investment asset - it should be a home first-and-foremost.

I agree, he comes across as totally lifeless and monotonous in the 2 or 3 episodes I’ve tried to watch. Can’t understand why he has such a huge following, he’s so incredibly boring to listen to droning on. At least presenters like Rogan (love him or hate him) have some energy about them and can get excited about stuff. Lex acting like a robot is his whole schtick as far as I can tell.

I think the big fear is similar to what happened in the 1930s… we could see another rise of dictators and calls for war as the public get more squeezed and feel like everything is going wrong in their society.

Civilisation is only civilised when the majority feel like the game isn’t rigged against them. I can see the cost of living crisis potentially causing a lot of instability in western societies, and the outcome of that could be bloody indeed…. I’m hopeful that Bitcoin might help prevent this - but I’m not sure… Interesting times, as the proverb goes…

ā€œThe illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.ā€
