What about a burner number?
Our girl has a deep voice and loves to bark all night long. We do hear coyotes at times, but never nearby⦠never lost a bird either even with just a poultry electric net
I like them too! So good to see you again today and excited to get started! #beekeeping
Very nice looking! Just getting started but excited about it! Zapped you for sharing pics :)
#GrowNostr #homesteading Iām curious how many other folks have an #LGD that help provide their own food? Our 1 yr old female Great Pyr hardly has a day go by when we donāt see her with a new chew toy or snack. Today was a baby bunny, last time I noticed was a raccoon, sheās brought home deer legs, skulls with antlers and meat on them, and one time an entire deer! Iād guess 75-100 pounds, and it took her and our other big dog almost a week to reduce it to a twisted hide. #carnivore dogs wanted a break from dog food I guess šš¤Ŗš
Getting started on a retort myself, but my understanding is that good biochar should not leave a black mess on your hands after handling. Pick it up, play with it and should be able to rinse your hands with just water, not needing soap or scrubbing.
#GrowNostr Had a good day today, mounted foundation on frames for our three #bee swarm traps, found and prepped 2 locations about 10ā up along the South edge of our woods. (Thanks to my buddy for all his help!)
Folks at the local gas station said we need more natural #beekeeping in our area since theyāve noticed a marked decline. Will try to post some pics when I get them installed.
Just got started with them⦠whatās going on that changed?
I used this pdf as a guide, but mostly I winged it.
The most critical part is the ramp angle of 40 degrees

Thanks, will check that out!
Hey, no problems! Not sure as I mainly wanted it for our RMH⦠never thought about buying dimensional, since weāre fairly broke after just building a house. š±š
We got a lot of the lumber for our house, forms, etc from an Amish lumber mill in Southern MO, last year. I think we figured even with the labor for cutting and planing some of it we still saved about $5,000 on the wood for the house, compared to buying at the big box stores.
Thatās what Iāve heard. Getting started at 53⦠so, can pick and choose. Iāve heard podcasts from a lady who has spent 15 years standardizing on langstroth mediums and she tried one Layens and loves it but hard to change with so much invested in the first style.
Maybe start off small, and as you need or want more in the future, transition? New to it all, so maybe I am just speaking crazy :)
Been wondering about it, as several Amish lumber mills in the area and I can buy bundles of about 1/3 cord for $5/$10 for soft/hard wood trimmings. Burned them in the rocket mass heater in our new house, and I think we spent $15 on wood this past winter. Wasnāt well seasoned though
Followed as I am also enjoying the #FoldCard. Sadly I canāt pay mortgage with it or water bill, most of the rest I can, including tractor payment. :)
Also, joined the #DCAarmy, dollar cost averaging at $1/hour through the #Strike appā¦
Following, cause that sounds cool to me too. Working to teach 11 year old twins about stacking sats and hard money. Easier than teaching mama! lol
Might try horizontal hives⦠also, maybe stuff with raw wool instead of foam board if possible. If it gets really cold where you are, might also want much deeper frames.
You need to attach a LN wallet so I can zap you! The boy and I had fun wiring frames, even in the cold and rainy weather⦠;-)
Those look oddly familiar⦠lol, found you!
Where did you get plans? Suggestions?
Permie in NW Missouri here, now have 10-55 gallon drums at home along with 10-30/35 gallon drums. Looking to make a retort or multiples. How well does this style work?
For the smaller drums, check Craigslist. The ones I got had chicken fat in them from a plant⦠more expensive than the 55s. Were $5ea for 55s, and I think $10ea for the smaller ones, both prices were for buying 10+ at once. Glad to have 31 acres to spread out in nowā¦lol
Iāve met maybe 10-12 of the KCFC folks and didnāt have problems with any of them⦠all seemed decent folks to me. Some Iāve gotten to know better than others, but as a trucker and having moved 100 miles up I-35, hard to be able to collaborate much

This is how Iāve been working to solve the winter problem. Roughly 2 inch insulation on sides and top but still using Langstroth frames. Didnāt do the bottom last year and thatās why I think 2/3 of the nucs didnāt make it. #bees #grownostr
