Violinist and teacher, building a homestead on raw land in between lessons and concerts. Fascinated by how we can develop resilience in our lives, in our families, in our communities. I'm excited about freedom tech and circular economies, and am deeply grateful for the devs and advocates who are helping build tools for a better future.

I love kettlebells! I started with just swings (which are amazing, of course), but slow strength work is also very satisfying.

suitcase deadlifts, single leg deadlifts, sumo squats, Cassock lunges, regular lunges (stepping back), hip thrusts

I have 10,15, 20 and 35 lb bells and a belt that makes it easy to do hip thrusts with them. I need to get a 50lb - hopefully soon.

So cool that you can make your feed whatever you'd like, and we're all on early enough that each new post develops the culture.

So glad to have this workout challenge! It's a busy time, and I'd definitely be skipping workouts otherwise.

1 hour-ish outside work, 20 minutes of lower body kettlebell moves.

The problem is that she wants a small group of people to decide what constitutes fake news. Even if she were sincere (and we have every reason to think that she is not), that kind of power creates serious moral hazard with terrible consequences for the society.

Defamation, incitement to violence, and threats are already against the law in the U.S.

I know that many of you have seen this, but in case not: it's worth watching! I think about Nostr a lot but got a whole new perspective that will help me a lot as I nudge others to join us on here.

Organic, bottom-up growth is messy and chaotic 💜

Did a ton of work outside (will be doing some heavy shoveling for most of this week!) then 20 minutes of upper body work/abs with kettlebells and bodyweight.

Thanks nostr:npub17nvfw7g53nxjghyd2zg552z06cke0jc0k69hj7ns7f9pw26j9kusap4u85

When I come across a nasty note in a thread I mute that user, though I've only done that a few times.

There's a quote that I like about free speech that I'll paraphrase - Free speech is horrible, but it's better than the alternative.

No doubt there is terrible stuff on here, and as Nostr gets more popular there will be even more (whether genuinely horrific people or just trolls trying to give Nostr a bad name). nostr:npub1q6ya7kz84rfnw6yjmg5kyttuplwpauv43a9ug3cajztx4g0v48eqhtt3sh 's suggestions about relays and words/hashtags are great, and there will surely be more options to curate your own algorithm over time.

Welcome (back)!

Day 1: lots of outdoor work (including some shoveling of heavy dirt and a ton of walking), which I'll count as 40 minutes

Plus 20 minutes with my kettlebells - single leg deadlifts, sumo squats, some Cossack lunges etc - all lower body.

Compost project! My husband and I took a class on it this week (Billy Bond 🤩) and put together a 30-bucket pile in a wire ring yesterday afternoon and the center is already at 138 degrees. Our soil ("soil" might not be the right word) needs lots of work, and we're planning to make extract and spray it everywhere that we can.

When I ask other ranchers if they've heard of what's going on with the King Ranch in Washington state they tell me 2 things almost every time:

1. No. Haven't heard about is.

2. Well, that's in Washington so it doesn't affect me here in Idaho (or pick some other state)

The King Ranch case challenges the way of life for all ranchers everywhere in the following ways:

Wetlands: The DOE (Department of Ecology) is not using sound science to determine wetlands, placing the burden on landowners to prove an area is not a wetland. The case shows that man-made stock ponds can be considered wetlands by the DOE.

Stockwater: Although RCW 90.44.050 allows the digging of permit-exempt stock ponds, the DOE and the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) has stated that digging without a permit is not acceptable.

DNR Leases: The DNR claims it can declare a lease in default and seize any improvements made by the lessee, such as fences and solar panels. This means DNR can remove lessees if DOE alleges water pollution, without offering due process.

Government Overreach: The DOE has been investigating alleged activities on King Ranch since 2021 without notifying the owners or having jurisdiction. They contacted officials and agencies before notifying the Kings, attempting to pressure them without evidence or due process. The DOE is also targeting stock ponds on the Kings' private property, insisting permits are required for any digging.

Criminal Investigation: While the civil investigation was ongoing, the AG's office started a parallel criminal investigation using the Special Inquiry Judge Act. This allows the state to keep evidence secret and issue subpoenas for anyone believed to have relevant information, including ranch employees. This statute can be misused to secretly investigate alleged environmental crimes.

Cultural Resources: The DNR falsely accused the Kings of violating "cultural resource" laws, despite the fact that cattle have been on the property for over 120 years, with 68 years under the King family. The DNR did not identify any new sites or notify the Kings of any necessary changes to their operations.

Ranchers (and farmers) who sleep on this and think it won't affect them are doing themselves and each other a disservice. It's just a matter of time before it does affect them.

Thanks for bringing this up. I'm pretty sure the only other time I've heard about it was from you on Nostr a while ago.

It seems that the recent SCOTUS decision on regulatory agencies should come into play here, but it seems like govt can find *something* to use no matter what.

It's probably worth a read. I don't disagree with everything Jimmy says, but there's something powerful about a novel that spins out the stuff that bitcoiners talk about all the time (hyperinflation, increasingly predatory govt).

I'm in! Right now I'm actually just aiming for about 20 minutes of either weights or calisthenics, but I'm outside climbing our hills and lugging buckets all the time, so I'm going to assume the other 40 are covered.

🙏

Can't wait for you to teach us about this 🙂

Yes, exactly - but I have to explain it to him and he has to then be able to explain it to his clients. Ugh.

Hi Friends! What's a decent inflation index for normies?

A good friend is getting hammered in his business by not building in inflation for ongoing service costs, but he'll have to justify using something other than CPI.
