If I understand it right, it matters less whether a non critical mass of users want to limit network access, and more if the network properties allow that.

The heavy reliance on web services and poor gesture processing create friction in the stock version, that escalate to gaps and dead ends in Graphene, I tried characterizing that as unstable, should have said unreliable, or something else that exceeds my current English language skills. Both versions fail to create a useful mobile device interface, it wastes an incredible amount of the time and attention of users, which I find highly problematic with a device type that already has an incredibly distracting, disruptive presence in everyday life. All subjective perception obviously.

Just to mention it, I tested making that jump with a Pixel 5, with Graphene, and the stock OS for comparison. Anything beyond running Signal and a wallet just feels unstable, and impractical, a feature phone with too many buttons.

Ahahaha, you almost made me spit out from laughing!

I mainly got the song stuck in my head today, but these movies had such a vibe overall.

So far only the Damus approach to Nostr really clicked with me, I really see no compelling alternative right now. Even with the current build stuttering like a terrified horror movie character.

I see the same behavior, the relay counter continuously decreasing and increasing again, the phone running hot and timeline scrolling stuttering to the point of freezing. I run 17.0 with the latest TestFlight though.

Completely forgot about Instagram writing this, that paired with universal eye tracking could cause some trouble. Still easy to keep off or remove from Apple devices.

That time of the year again

Apple has no significant ad business, aside from the simple App Store ads, and they said they relegated the continuous eye tracking to a separate secure system layer that apps get no regular access to right in the announcement presentation, so I really see no reason to throw Apple in the same group with Meta at all.

With closed source judgement mostly only depends on trust anyway.

I find this type of ideologic engagement with technology disingenuous overall. I either need to design and build things myself, stop consuming, or respect the work other people put in to make things I ultimately want or need.

The physical gaps make the overall view just unpleasant.

I only see a ‘spatial computer’ sufficiently solve ultra wide computer work spaces.

For my own work I prefer the focus of small screens, A4 format or smaller, anyway. No multitasking aside from some moderate Stage Manager use either.

Plastic back to make it cheaper, I hope in any such future cases they can at least go with biopolymers.

Saying just “Siri” makes prompts much more seamless. Alexa has had a significant edge there before in my mind.
