Thank you Seneca. I’m trying to subtly inspire people to replace politics with stoicism in their minds and abandon debating the politics part all emotionally and irrationally altogether. It’s such a waste of time and generates zero income. A close left leaning family member admitted to me at a Christmas party that they turned their back on the Democrat party because they said 2024 was the last straw. We’ve debated a lot over the years, so it took a bit of courage for him I think, which I tried to honor. He was oddly eager to share how wrong he felt he’d been, so I did zero gloating. I asked what that meant for him, and he said something to the effect of ‘I haven’t changed my ideals about wanting fairness for everyone or to lift up the poor, etc, I just don’t believe anymore that politics can do it.’ Bingo! So of course I ask what does he think can do it, and he says ‘something has to fundamentally change about the financial system because it’s completely unfair and inflation is killing everyone and the billionaires, yada yada yada’ which is why he has been voting democrat because I guess he thought they’d force some changes that would bring that fairness he desires, whatever those changes might be—- he doesn’t even know, but now he sees that that’s just a fucked up thing to do and the democrats fail to do anything effective towards that ill-inspired goal anyway. This is a guy who is not just a nocoiner but a coinhater so I just shrugged and agreed it is a pickle indeed! and went for more scoops of tiny meatballs and then kept my mouth shut, giggled about the changes coming to the financial system that will blindside him and added him to the list of people to mail a copy of ‘The Daily Stoic’ to. #stoicism over #politics

I forgot to mention nostr:npub1z072s0nvldeva7a6qek3kj358f0h5gm640kkllkk52h0qrjtnw8q38wfm4 and specifically the new version available for preorder. Could simplify a lot of things for people.

ok now we’re talking. These kind of discoveries are why I came to #nostr

oh, I see, so save the xpub part in room-temp storage encrypted online while saving the seeds in cold storage on stainless steel. Good solution, I hadn’t really thought of it that way. Still complex, but less risky. Thanks!

I want to try this #vpn #vpnstr but Wireguard on iOS hasn’t seen an update in over a year. What do you think about recommending software that’s not under active development? How would we know about vulnerabilities in an app that is stagnant ?

I tested it to its limits, but I couldn’t find an easy backup method that wasn’t a half page of text, couldn’t find one that I was certain I wouldn’t fail to recover in 10 or 20 years. We forget stuff over time and so the password to your fortune has to be both really complex and super simple to backup. I see no competitor to the seed phrase for this. It’s so perfect, and any complexity added beyond a 25th word is asking for trouble. The superiority and dominance of the basic seed phrase reminds me of what someone recently said about Spotify: “its only real competition is silence”

Multisig backups are a mess. The BSMS standard exists, but in my experience, the BSMS files are not compatible 100% from wallet to wallet. I’ve tried and some wallets fail to load BSMS files created by others. Period. This leaves me feeling like I would need to rely on one wallet vendor for recovery instead of the basic and universal, uncomplicated seed phrase. So for long term storage, it’s frightening to feel like you might have problems later if your chosen wallet vendor vanishes. You need to be concerned with derivation paths, key fingerprints and all that mess. My question is: has anyone simplified multisig (self-custody) backups to the fool-proof level of seed phrase simplicity? #asknostr #multisig

I made the same mistake you made here in Damus, and have made it a few times now. I see what happened now and I always want to foster peace, so I’ll explain: my original comment was actually in reply to stargirl’s question (I hadn’t even seen your question yet when I was answering her), but because of how damus displays the threads, I keep mixing up people’s responses. So when you snarked at me about being too wordy with my answer, I was like wtf is this? I think you saw the thread and replied to me as if my response to stargirl was actually to you, which it wasn’t. So we both read it wrong. Merry Christmas and thank you for the lesson. I’ll be more careful about who is responding to whom, and I’ll try other clients that maybe make it easier for my Reddit brain to see what’s happening. Apologies anon!

Ah, but what about those who insist on sitting in the middle? They're just trying to avoid responsibility
