I went to Belize at the begining of the year and had zero cell service for most of the 2 week trip. And the places I did have service, or at least wifi (one place I staued was an eco-lodge with limted electrcity and only had sketchy, slow wifi in a small common room).
I couldn't get text messages so I was locked out of any thing that used my cell number as a 2fa (all of those that could be have since been swapped to a proper authenticator app) and several apps I use are apprently geofenced to the US.
My phone got relagated to compact camera.
The stages of grief were all accounted for.
But a good reminder these things are just tools. Hammers that can build, or disasemble, or kill. (zombie apocalypse with only one thing? 🔨) But still, just tools.
We are becoming more and more transhuman. Luckily we can still put down our cybernetics and chose how we wield them.

Mmmm breakfast burrito and #coffee.

lol, if only that were an option. 45 years in I don't think that's going to happen.
My aversion to ads is more that you tend to see the same thing over and over and over again.
I’m very excited about nostr because of the things we have not built yet, but are definitely coming because once you see them it’s hard not to try to make it happen.
What I’m most excited about:
1. Multi-media apps on nostr. One I cannot stop thinking about is Zapstr (but re-focused on music only, with a simplified interface). Ok, this one already sort of exists, but the potential is huge IMO and has not even been touched.
2. Adult industry clients. Even if you disagree with them, I think there’s so much potential in zap-to-unlock content, and clients designed specifically for that media consumption experience.
3. Non-adult media consumption - apps that allow you to scroll and consume content quickly. We have an app like that already (forget the name) which has a ton of potential if fully refined.
4. “Deck” clients - https://snort.social/deck these will need a lot of work to make them feel snappy fast, but once there I think we can do so much in terms of the content that can be added into various columns. Lume is also heading in the right direction IMO.
5. Simple music players that can be integrated into any client. I cannot stop thinking about a global jukebox or zap-to-play.
6. Easy multi-account switching. Some clients already have this but it’s not as fast as it could be. I think having multiple personas may help content creation on Nostr. I would like to push clients to make npub switching as easy as possible.
7. Nostr widgets - any cool use case such as ecash designed into great looking widgets that are easily carried over into clients.
8. Better notifications - automated stream alerts, automated nests reminders
9. AI tool integrations such as automated nests transcripts, stream transcripts.
10. Video uploading (think YouTube). I think this could grow nostr tremendously when we can link people to content shared on a nostr video client instead of YouTube
11. Better Long-form content consumption within social clients. I think at least a few clients have the designs already but it hasn’t been developed much.
12. Better sharing mechanisms, built in sharing buttons, anything to get the word out to other platforms.
13. Highlighted media (text, audio) within clients that can support that. Highlights from articles, from friends, bookmarked / shareable highlights page (think your personal book shelf but for highlights, and you can share it with anyone).
14. Zap-splitting tracks, playlists.
15. Real time sat streaming while playing music or podcasts
16. Better communities. Reddit is cool, but I think we can do much better. I feel that this space has so much potential that we are just not exploring yet.
17. Niche use cases nobody is thinking about like Stargazr (lyrics interpretation client).
18. Traditional app integrations with nostr apps. This is a big one that I haven not heard anyone talk about yet. What makes Slack powerful is not that it works as a chat app - but the integrations they’ve built in over time. Nostr can do the same if we forgo the “nostr only” mentality and start integrating with other apps. This also gives us a marketing channel within those vendor integration pages, announcements / tweets.
19. SEO - don’t see anyone thinking about SEO or so it seems. HUGE area of opportunity that requires some thinking and applying.
I’m probably forgetting a lot of things and not anticipating other awesome ideas. There’s so much to build! We may not have a million active users, but the possibilities for new types of interactions are endless. No other protocol or app can match it.
Video will likely be the hardest. Server storage capacity and bandwidth are likely going to be the stumbling block. Needing ad support (🤮), paid memberships, or some other way to keep from bankrupting the person/group hosting the files.
Same here. I was bored and wanted to look at some of the new socials. I refuse to go on FB or the platform formally know as the bird app. Looked at Bluesky, but that was a waitlist, I tried and disliked mastadon years ago and gave it quick glance to confirm it still wasn't my jam.
Found nostr in a google search, downloaded Iris.to and down the rabbit hole I went.
The bit-bro thing was a bit offputing, and talk of orange and purple pills made me leary that there were going to be "alpha" red pill douches ( the ironies of them using that are legion, but that's a dif rant) here, but the I saw artst trending and that was cool, and the devs being right there was cool, and i wanted to see what was going to happen next. And cool things keep happening next.
I had some experience with bitcoin ages ago, like 2012 or 13? But basically wrote it off at the time (really, even now lighting as a functional payment system is the only reason I'm paying it any attention now).
nostr feels a lot like the early web. There is so much potential here.
Ah yes, the early works of Michael Bay.
i know, right!?!
or cash or venmo at least.
The only place I've seen it was in New York Central Park. Every busker had a cash receptical and multiple QR codes. (not many had lighting/btc but the general point stands)
When you switch it around it's like your mom (or maybe Kitty, the That 70's Show mom) is saying it.
Hold on for life dear!
NOSTR/Zaps thought - Setup a relay just for the class and have them spin up key pairs to have a running feed on a monitor. You can zap good questions. They can zap questions they found helpful.
Might wanna make sure they only get on your relay though, dropping them right into full global might be bad 😅.
I think starting off with a lighting transaction between two people would be a great way to start. Maybe be their non-kyc exchange by exchanging $1 for the equivalent sats and zapping it to them.
Or heck, start by telling them anyone who downloads a wallet (WoS has been the easiest I've found to jump right into, plus they have funny randomly generated addresses) Will get 100 sats. And then give sats out throughtout the class for participating. Participating is V4V!
New #lume is pretty sweet on mac desktop.
I think it would really improve the onboarding/user adoption. I'm not much a fan of zbd, but they do have a much better onboarding. Having an integrated wallet is another big thing they have going for them.
Iris has the delete button. Can we have a delete button of our own nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 ?
Yesterday i accidentally posted a picture i didnt mean to.
nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s
You could try deleting the picture whereever it got uploaded to. There is
generally online one copy og the image, rather than multiple instances of the
text which gets spread out on relays.
It's one of the major issues and happens a lot. Best option I've found is regular backup on metadata.nostr.com

Just for fun. Going to try to integrating it into some bit of art or something.
