yeah, I think corporate open source is often about “commoditizing your complement” as Joel Spolsky put it and Gwern summarized:
"fostering so much competition in another layer above or below its layer that no competing monopolist can emerge”
prob strategic, but a nice side-effect that it creates net-benefit for the world

The area that I feel needs work is Identity on #Nostr - the decentralized approach brings some interesting challenges, but that will only bring additional innovation. Let's not waste the work done by DecentralizedIDFoundation e.g. https://identity.foundation/ion/

possible, but seems unlikely to me
other protocols like smtp/http/btc basically aggregate to one protocol per purpose. bridges eventually capitulate?
Nostr is positioned to be the point where different social network protocols can converge in one place.
