This isn't Nostr stalling. Nostr doesn't have a "trending" feed.
This is Primal, which is creating a trending feed of content from Nostr relays using its own algorithm.
Definitely running the latest version of Spring, as it hasn't had an update since December.
Just installed Alby Hub last week, but I am sure you guys are actively pumping out updates so I will check to make sure I am on the latest version when I get home tonight.
I am copying the entire connection string, starting with nostr+walletconnect://, over to Spring and it just tells me it is invalid.
Two ways to display a highlight, on nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 and nostr:npub1n0stur7q092gyverzc2wfc00e8egkrdnnqq3alhv7p072u89m5es5mk6h0.
I like the quoted style, but I think it should probably mention the author’s name. 😆

I agree, the quote style is more appealing, but should reference the source/author.

I would definitely watch, but it appears I may be in the minority.
Yep, I think all these things are solvable, and I am incredibly bullish on pear runtime in general, as well as Keet in particular, even if it never gains the user base of something like Telegram or Discord.
BG 3 is fantastic, and many of the updates coming to D&D in the new Player's Handbook are already implemented in the game.
Been meaning to look into the open source VTT apps out there...
Most of the changes coming seem like good decisions.
Not thrilled that we're losing a full round against enemies who are surprised, though, and now you just have advantage on initiative rolls while they have disadvantage.
I'm very excited about the various effects you will be able to inflict with weapons, if you are proficient with them!
Keet as a few things to improve before it is really ready for prime-time.
There's currently no way to leave a room once you have joined. Pretty sure that has been the case since the update that allowed logging into the same profile from all your devices, but it broke something about being able to leave a room.
There's no way to have sub-rooms. For instance, if I wanted to set up a room for my church that had one room for organizing events, one for posting hymns for the upcoming service, one for prayer requests, and one for just general discussion, I would need to set them up as completely separate and unrelated rooms mixed in with the list of all the other rooms I am in. Given the main competitors are Telegram and Discord, this is a must-have feature, in my opinion.
In small rooms of only a few people, sharing media can be rough. I will send an image to my buddy, and when he opens up the app to look at it, it won't load because I am already offline doing something else. So he will send me a message "I can't see what you sent." And then I have to go online while he still has his app open for it to show up. There's not really a way around this, since Keet doesn't use any servers in-between our devices. Yet, this is not what "mainstream" will expect as their UX without something warning them the first time they share a media file, explaining why this is the case.
I would also like to see a version of Keet that can be hosted on an always online device, so room participants can act as a "relay" for media sent by participants using mobile devices that don't keep the room open when they aren't actively using the app.
In general, I agree, and I try to be consistent in calling them signing devices, rather than hardware wallets, but language tends to follow the crowd, and for better or worse, calling them hardware wallets or cold wallets has already stuck with a large amount of the community, including the more popular Bitcoin educators, who will be a major influence on new folks coming in.
Examples:
nostr:nprofile1qqspnzgrfett3asxcuj0gksje6z2zxzpvgd27uvz58m9vsuqh8zzw6cpzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgqgjwaehxw309ac82unsd3jhqct89ejhxqg5waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxgctdw4eju6t0rjj54p titled this video on the ColdCard Q much like he has titled other similar tutorials: "Coldcard Q Bitcoin Wallet - Beginner Tutorial." Moreover, he opened up the video saying, "The ColdCard Q is a hardware device that allows you to secure your Bitcoin safely offline."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiNCG-7EN4A&t=8
Though I am sure he knows very well that "wallet" probably isn't the most technically correct term, he also knows that is the term most new folks will be using when they search for tutorials, and thus the term ends up reinforced.
Likewise, nostr:nprofile1qqstnem9g6aqv3tw6vqaneftcj06frns56lj9q470gdww228vysz8hqpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqzrthwden5te0dehhxtnvdakqz9rhwden5te0wfjkccte9ejxzmt4wvhxjmcjgxv3n has advertisements for ColdCard on his podcasts where he calls it a "hardware wallet," reinforcing the term in the community.
https://fountain.fm/episode/wgkqiF4AAXgvn4PPowPO
And I have heard numerous people, smart people who know this isn't really how it works, talk about one of the greatest benefits of Bitcoin being that you can take your Bitcoin with you in your head when fleeing a hostile country by just memorizing 12 words.
So the ship has sailed as far as changing the term we use, except to personally help people understand what it actually means, when they are ready to dive into the technical aspects.
It is what it is... I hear a bunch of people say they store their Bitcoin securely on their hardware wallet. It is technically incorrect, but also the most convenient shorthand we have for new-coiners, without having to get into the technical weeds.
And really, when you think about it,if your physical wallet is just holding debit and credit cards, it's not holding your money either, just your keys needed to move it.
Perhaps explaining my use-case would help.
I essentially want to use my Start9 Lightning node uncle Jim for my family, and perhaps some close friends. I figure that LNBits is probably the easiest way for them each to have separate wallets that use my node for liquidity. I will also need to find a way to provide them with separate lightning addresses. Shouldn't be too difficult once Start9 finally releases their next update, giving each service an addressable port.
My thought was, if Alby Hub could connect to these LNBits wallets separately, each of my family members could use an Alby lightning address with their LNBits wallet that uses my node's liquidity, but tracks their balance, rather than my node's entire outbound liquidity.
Not sure... I have channels open and have been both sending and receiving zaps on Amethyst just fine.
It seems Spring Browser just isn't recognizing the connection string, and unfortunately it doesn't have an option to scan a QR code instead.
I don't see any reason why we wouldn't start seeing more and more of this in the near future as these currently siloed platforms begin to realize there is nothing stopping them from doing this. They have every incentive to just start showing Nostr notes in their own clients. It does nothing to hurt them, and only enriches their existing content. It also helps keep people from leaving their app to go to one specifically built for Nostr.
Oh, Brazil is trying to bully X into censoring posts? Fine. Anyone from Brazil is no longer posting to X, but to a Nostr relay, and X just displays the notes, but doesn't have any control over them. Just like with all the other notes X is displaying from Nostr without hosting them on its own servers.
It's just a matter of that concept clicking in the brains of those at the wheel for those platforms.
If you look at what Matrix and Fediverse do, they integrate everywhere they can. They're ubiquitous.
Exactly, and there is no reason the same couldn't be the case with Nostr for any type of client that can be imagined, pulling from the protocol only the data that would be useful in their context.
This is why I love what Fountain is doing with their beta build, integrating the data already available to them via the Nostr protocol in a way that adds value to the users of their app and encouraging existing users to interact with and add to that data.
That could be interesting. You can manually set an alias for them, if you want, and your client will automatically do so for you if they change their handle to something other than what it was when you first followed them.
I also like the "old PFP sliding in from the side on hover" for desktop clients. Some indicator to tap would probably work on mobile.
This is an excellent point!
I would probably prefer a client to show whatever nickname the user wants to go by, and have my alias for them shown less prominently next to or underneath it. This would be particularly useful for tagging them, if I can search by the alias I assigned. That said... I doubt I would ever take the time to assign an alias to everyone I am following, so I am not sure how much use this would get in practice.
I am divided on how a client ought to handle the pfp. I can see the value of having the option to not accept the updated pfp, particularly if they are clearly trying to impersonate someone else, but I also don't want to be spammed every time one of my followers updates their pfp with a request to accept or reject it. THIS!
Coracle is the best client for discovering people to follow. Just follow a few people you know, and then jump into Global with your minimum web-of-trust score cranked to 10. You'll find plenty of quality people and content worth interacting with.
Quality replies then go the longest way to growing a base of people who care to see what you have to say, as well.
For personal growth, or turning you away from going down a bad road, you absolutely should care about what those you care about have to say about you, and very little about what random people on the internet who care nothing for you think about you.
For the sake of being a representative of Christ to the world, you should care what all people think of you. Ensure that they hate you for the sake of the gospel itself, not the way you present it.
"Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person." - Colossians 4:6
"Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation." - 1 Peter 2:12
"Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us." - Titus 2:7 & 8
"Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil." - 1 Timothy 3:7
If our Lord tells us we should care what others think of us, not for our own sake, but for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ, then we should probably listen.
Hmm, for those who receive a lot of DMs, a subscription might be preferred, but for most of us plebs, a pay per notification model would likely be better.
What about one where you can prepay for a certain number of notifications and at the bottom of each it let's you know how many you have left?
Has anyone been able to successfully connect Alby Hub to Spring using NWC? It tells me that the connection string isn't valid.
#AskNostr
I only ever go to global on #Coracle, since web of trust filters hide all that garbage. More clients need this feature.
It finally made my node useful as a daily driver for me. Connecting to it over Tor is way too slow and unreliable, and setting up a lightning address to use with Start9 can be a massive pain right now. They've been promising this will be easier when the next update arrives, but no ETA on it. Then Alby comes along and makes it trivial.
I do wonder what the privacy trade-offs are, and how much info Alby has access to about transactions and balances on my node due to using Alby Hub. My assumption is they have access to all of it, and I just have to hope they aren't tracking or storing that information.
That sounds great as a start, for sure, but it wouldn't allow using your Alby lightning address with your LNBits wallet, like Alby Hub does with my full node balance, or would it?
