I think Americans are so far removed from a country with a homogeneous population with similar values, that we can't imagine being in that situation and having a government that's legitimately working in the best interest of their citizens and no one else. It would be a completely different situation, and maybe we'd get more outcomes like this.
One would certainly think so, but these college protesters definitely aren't on the political right, they've been about as solidly supportive of the political left as possible.

I'm using leftist to refer to people who support the left wing political parties. I think that's the meaning of the word. If there's a more accurate word to describe that group I'd certainly use it.
I'm specifically using leftist instead of liberal because their actions and what appears to be their values have no connection to the meaning of the word "liberal".
I don't know what left political values are. I look at people like these protesters and their "values" seem incoherent to me. I'm using leftist because these people politically support the left wing parties. Describing them as liberals in the classical sense wouldn't be correct, they certainly don't have liberal values. Is there a more accurate word to describe this group?

Sure. Leftists love calling people like Trump a "Nazi". A Nazi is a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party of the 1930s. The party no longer exists, and Trump is not a member of it. So maybe they're using it to refer to Nazi ideology? Nazis believed in Aryan racial supremacy and were genocidal anti-Semites. Trump was the biggest supporter of the state of Israel among recent presidents. The people calling him a "Nazi" are opposed to the existence of the state of Israel and try to get Jews cancelled online. So there's no correlation there, either.
Leftists also love calling people "fascist". Fascism is a system of government where corporations are controlled and work closely with a centralized authoritarian government. Leftists called for the government to force private social media corporations to censor "fascists" from their platform 🤯. Apparently without a hint of cognitive dissonance.
When leftists use a word, it's not to express an idea related to the definition of the word. It's more like when a 5 year old says "Mommmmyyyyyyyy, he's being a poopy head, waaaaaaaaaaaa!" She's not using the term "poopy head" to describe that her brother has feces on his head. It's just a social signal to say that he did something she didn't like, and since the world revolves around her, anyone who does something she doesn't like is a Bad Person ™ (Nazi, fascist, racist etc).
Conservatives don't understand how the words are being used, so they respond with "no I am not a Nazi" and logical arguments to show that they aren't. That's as ineffective as telling the 5 year old "no your brother does not have poop on his head" instead of "Karen, stop saying naughty words and being a tattletale or I'm going to spank you and send you to your room without supper." Which is also basically how conservatives should respond to leftists calling them derogatory names.
Leftism rejects objective moral absolutes, therefore, when leftists use words, it doesn't correlate to any fundamental meaning. "Nazi" and "fascist" and "racist" are just group signaling cues without any connection to the actual meaning of the word. That's how they can hold obviously contradictory views without experiencing cognitive dissonance.
That, or leftists just aren't very bright 🤷🏼♂️.

The reason for the intimidation is because they're a weak and pathetic minority, and if a significant number of people pushed back they'd be finished in no time. So they have to make sure that never happens.

Real problems in the world don't get solved today because the productive people who solve real problems aren't interested in dealing with completely unnecessary nonsense that's not solving real problems. And the first step in solving any real problem today is convincing a group of stupid, incompetent, corrupt, evil, lazy parasites to let you solve the problem. Productive people don't have the time or patience for that, so they're increasingly taking their ball and going home.
