One of my favorite places to spend time is #nostr , and lately it is consuming too much. So today I begin a NostrFast until the autumnal equinox. I hope to clear my mind, touch grass, weed the garden, start some cuttings, and finish a book. Started out my work day by logging into my email and getting yelled at on blast by a staff person at one of our other campuses for something that was an unfortunate side effect of something else I was doing on Friday. So that was fun.

Feeling rather down now. Already finished my coffee.

This weekend was far busier than I would have preferred. Ended up joining Hubby and BIL to help unload some stuff my MIL wanted from her old house at her apartment. Went to take out a bag of trash by her front door, and got garbage juice dripped all over my foot and pant leg. It smelled like piss and coffee grounds, and I had to throw everything in the wash (including myself) when I got home. 🤢

Hubby and I had adult Sunday School and church yesterday, and then went on what we thought would be a fun 90 minute historical train ride in western WI yesterday afternoon from a Groupon I bought a while ago. It turned out to be very boring, and we sat at the turn around point for about half an hour while they literally moved the engine from one end to the other to tow us back to the station. We barely made it back in time to pick Lu up from doggy daycare before they closed.

Exhausted today. Trying to stay positive, but really just feeling meh.

Just as an update from “normie internet” for those who are Nostr-only:

Perhaps the most dangerous thing that is happening is the psychological manipulation of public opinion through siloing users with interest-or-outrage algorithms plus providing near zero protection against AI-driven bot armies in the comments, that give the illusion of consensus for extremism on both “sides”. I read the JFK files, so I have my suspicions about who this benefits and it isn’t the American public.

The second most dangerous thing happening is the censorship. The content moderation (or “community guidelines”) on other social media apps has gotten absolutely insane. I have to speak in code to keep my videos up because even saying the word Trump or Palestinian, for example, will get me throttled or flagged. Saying Russia or Israel gets me bot-swarmed and then flagged. Smh. Political topics have become completely blacklisted (now that the election is over 🙄) and now conspiracy topics are also being shut down.

I’m attaching an image of my “saved videos” tab from TikTok so yall can just get a feeling for how many videos are being taken down.

I have garnered 100k+ followers, but an average video of mine gets about 2k views, so what’s even the point of having that large of an audience? I’m not monetized for views on tiktok because when I tried their monetization program, my views went down to 200. I suppose that’s “legal censorship” of employees, so I quit taking their hush money.

But yeah if you’re looking around wondering what is happening to our culture… that’s what’s happening. We need a true public square, and that’s what I think NOSTR is helping to create.
