I feel like these guys have so much on and a lot of their focus is on big companies and large orders. When they are communicating things move fast... but then they'll dissappear for a while and nothing happens in that time until the reappear a week or two later when they come back to check messages.

Hey sorry quick correction to all this... The stock fans are 120mm amd the noctuas I put on are 140. Go with the 140 + adapter. Moves more air at lower rpm/noise.

Oh interesting. I might try printing something like that. I'd imagine something like that will disrupt airflow though. You might want to test efficiency of that vs simply turning the wattage down. Would be neat to see a chart with temp, volume, and wattage!

For the Noctua 120mm, youll need to 3d print an adaptor (check ceypto cloaks), I am running the NF-A14 IndustrialPPC 3000 PWM version. There's several flavors of the NF-A14. The normal case fans will probably be quietest but I think they max out around 1800 rpm. There are two industrial versions that max at 2k vs 3k rpm. Generally, volume is directly proportional to RPMs. At 800 watts my fans typically spin around 1800 rpm. I went with the 3k version for longevity amd to give myself headroom if I wanted to run at higher wattage at some point

For the power supply I'm using NF-A6x25 noctua fans which I highly recommend.

You have to look at opportunity cost not go for break even. Unless you have solar you'll never get "free heat" from mining. Look at it this way, you probably have to heat your home no matter what. If you have a space heater running at 1400 watts, the s9 is economic, regardless of halving or anything else as it can also be set to consume the same 1400 watts but provide a bitcoin subsidy. From my experience, 800 watts is more than enough for a normal sized room. That cuts your electric cost vs your 1400 watt heater in half (ish).

If you are comparing efficiency of the miner versus central heat... I guess that could depend.

But also a fan does not cost 120... that's overkill by a long margin. You can get top of the line noctua or bequiet fans for like 20-30 each.
