nostr:npub14eng8plhflea40cu3lafnw6nwkxsp5te2v7hzy74lz6a9mjhpaks0wm4rw GI is usually measured, not estimated. There are figures. They vary a bit. But roughly speaking, you want to consume foods with a low GI for health reasons. Most diet advice contains foods with a low GI.
nostr:npub14eng8plhflea40cu3lafnw6nwkxsp5te2v7hzy74lz6a9mjhpaks0wm4rw Foods that contain fat and protein usually measure as having no glycemic index. You say it gets converted into sugars. Seeing as this is not seen when measured, how do you explain that?
nostr:npub14eng8plhflea40cu3lafnw6nwkxsp5te2v7hzy74lz6a9mjhpaks0wm4rw Triglyceride Club often finds itself in violent disagreement with Amino Acid Club in other words.
They say you can stave off hunger by making sure to have enough protein.
Well, I have plenty of that in my fridge. Per this logic, I should never want chocolate or candy.
Turns out I still do.
I also crave wine and other things that the body doesn't need.
nostr:npub14eng8plhflea40cu3lafnw6nwkxsp5te2v7hzy74lz6a9mjhpaks0wm4rw That disparity is fairly long-standing in Norway. There's always been some antagonism. Fights about who gets to define the country. It runs so deep that we have two official written forms of the language, and the rural areas fight tooth and nail to keep existing. We live on the outskirts of Europe, where few other people want to live. This whole country kind of exists out of sheer determination.
nostr:npub14eng8plhflea40cu3lafnw6nwkxsp5te2v7hzy74lz6a9mjhpaks0wm4rw "most Norwegians" gets a little weird when you're not from where most Norwegians live these days (urban areas) but you are from where they used to live traditionally (rural areas). Hard and honest work was the mentality for most of this country's history.
nostr:npub14eng8plhflea40cu3lafnw6nwkxsp5te2v7hzy74lz6a9mjhpaks0wm4rw If you leave Oslo and start asking people along the west coast (the region that pretty much defines the Norwegian identity) what they think, they're the ones making the money while Oslo is where they spend it.
nostr:npub14eng8plhflea40cu3lafnw6nwkxsp5te2v7hzy74lz6a9mjhpaks0wm4rw 33.4% of Norwegians above the age of 16 have a college education. 37.4% have only finished high school. 26.2% have only finished secondary school.
In my age cohort, it's 47.6% for college, 32.7% for high school and 16.2% for secondary school only.
I expect these figures would look different if you eliminated the big cities from that statistic.
It wasn't that common for my parents' generation to get educated. Only 26.1% of people above the age of 67 have a college education.

I had extremely little pressure to achieve on me. I come from the far north, which has the worst income levels and levels of academic achievement in the country. I currently live in Oslo, where it's the complete opposite.
nostr:npub14eng8plhflea40cu3lafnw6nwkxsp5te2v7hzy74lz6a9mjhpaks0wm4rw Dad legitimately did not want me to leave my home town. "Why don't you stay here? Life is good and simple here."

nostr:npub14eng8plhflea40cu3lafnw6nwkxsp5te2v7hzy74lz6a9mjhpaks0wm4rw There was a spanner thrown in the works for me. The choice was a career in software development. Missing was the knowledge that I have ADHD. Deep concentration in solitude isn't really something I can do for work, I think. Paying attention to my external environment, switching between many smaller tasks and communicating comes much more naturally to me. I was about halfway down the mountain when I realised my mistake.
Most of the people I've met in my life don't appear to be in full control of their destinies at all. Not even the successful ones. They just sort of ran into a situation by accident and reacted to it.
I think my job coach wants me to continue down the path of software development because it's still my best bet. It's not really what I want, but if having a job is the top priority, it's the quickest way of doing it.
Once your life has been set in motion, overcoming the inertia is difficult. Stuff tends to continue in the same direction unless you put up a fight to change it.
It looks like most jam session events rely on a core group of musicians to get the jam started and to keep it going.
Somewhat inconvenient for me, since the idea was to create a meeting place to form that group in the first place.
The right circumstances for what I want to do never seem to exist. It's frustrating. It's like reading books on how to start a business, only to realise that it's written by and for people whose circumstances were already pretty ideal for that.
You almost get the impression sometimes that people who get what they want in life are completely unaware of how much random chance contributed to their success.
You don't see many people giving advice on creating the right circumstances, because that's rather difficult to do.
The self-made man is a bit like Bigfoot. There are plenty of stories about Bigfoot out there, but no one you personally know has ever encountered him.
Believe it or not, MtGox, the old BTC exchange that died 10 years ago and has been in legal proceedings ever since, actually sent some money.
Largest sum I've ever received to my PayPal. Enough to pay almost two months' rent, and as I understand it, more is on the way.
Christmas gift 🥳

I think Jim Carrey signed off. You can't find a Twitter account or any social media account currently.
Somebody hired me to produce music for an ad. His team had some music they liked but they couldn't use it for legal reasons.

If we can talk of an "#AuDHD spectrum", I lean a bit left here. The autism side isn't as pronounced. Symptoms of both have also gotten milder over the years. I'm a bit less spicy than I used to be. Anyone else?

more on what Threads is planning. it's interesting that people dislike federation so much that they're asking users to opt in. this is a big lesson. people want control.

Threads posts that you would never in a million years see on Mastodon
