It's on my list to look into. I see the advantages but I really like F-Droid.
Can Obtanium pull from GitLab servers too, or is it limited to pulling releases posted to Microsoft GitHub?
In Amethyst, I havea Global timeline, a timeline of just people I follow, and something that says /n/selfhosted. What is that third one? Is that like a group, or like I following a hashtag or what?
I like being able to see just info about a specific topic like this and I want more of this! 😃
Ah, I'm on version 0.83.9-fdroid. I look forward to when the next version makes it into F-droid.
I wish I had time to explore all of these curosities.
nostr:npub15u3cqhx6vuj3rywg0ph5mfv009lxja6cyvqn2jagaydukq6zmjwqex05rq Did you like my suggestion for a challing/signature approach to login to nostr.cooking instead of putting private keys into the browser and/or downloading a browser extension? Any plans on trying to implement it?
Can anyone repro this crash in Amethyst?
Go to post a new note. Type @ and then paste this: nostr:npub15u3cqhx6vuj3rywg0ph5mfv009lxja6cyvqn2jagaydukq6zmjwqex05rq
Does it crash with an ArrayOutOfBounds exception?
If I made tiny caution signs like this one, would anyone on nostr be interested in buying them?

I can't sell this design in particular because it's licensed as non-commercial and I respect that. But I could make my own design and print and sell those. It just doesn't make a ton of sense to go through the trouble of designing, prototyping and printing them if it's just for me, ya know?
But I really WANT "if you build it, they will come" to be true!
Is there anything like Microsoft GitHub's Sponsers in the bitcoin world?
I ask because I think the idea of sponsorware is intriguing, but I don't want to line Microsoft's pockets. https://calebporzio.com/sponsorware
I think the thing I feel conflicted about all the plans to make #FOSS sustainable that I've seen seeming like they are a popularity contest. The people who are the best at selling themselves are the ones who win.
On one hand, it seems fair that the more useful your code is, the more you should be compensated. So code that hardly anyone uses is less valuable to the world, and so the author *should* be paid less.
On the other hand, writing some incredibly useful code and nobody finding out about it, and thus nobody using it, makes it seem less valuable.
So unless you're out there tooting your own horn, telling everyone about how great your thing is, your creation isn't considered valuable. Put another way, promoting things is rewarded more than creating them.
And if you think that the good creations rise to the top, I disagree. I don't think those who have risen to the top of the software world are the best. Microsoft, Google, Apple, Facebook... are they on top because they are technically superior? I don't think so. They have some innovative technology, but more importantly, they have huge marketing teams, and the ability to tell hundreds of millions of people about their latest thing with the flick of a button. Then the media outlets echo their press releases, then people react to it, then stories are written about people's reactions.
None of this happens when, for example, someone apps support for some NIP to their nostr relay software.
Maybe the answer is to find a nostr crew. Developers who focus on making hella efficient, secure and reliable technology together. This crew doesn't fuck around. They have a posse who spreads the word about the groups work so the group can focus on the engineering. Maybe they have dome server operators who run their software so they can stay focused on development and not get tired up in operations. If you've actually made it all the way to this part of this post and know of such a crew, let me know about them. If you read this and thought "fuck yeah, I want THAT" let me know. Maybe you are just the kind of person I want to connect with.
If you follow me, you probably know I work on Signet, qmail, automating installation of FOSS tools with ansible, and have minor contributions to Qubes, Orbot, Seedsigner Ruuvi tag software, and a few others. These are the kind of things I'm into. I also have a considerable amount of other contributions under other nyms that I don't talk about here.

A sign of our times: articles have to be written explaining to people that women should be able to have a choice on how many children they have.
Because some people want to pressure them into having kids because "oh noes, population decline".
F that noise. People should be free to decide for themselves.
Those were very nice phones and not EOL either. Glad to hear you sold em! Seemed like w good price too
Very close. The correct answer is make the old system obsolete.
We don't have elevator operators or telephone switchboard operators any more because we built better technology.
Hopefully that's what #bitcoin will be for electronic payments someday.
For some things, it's already better. If you can get paid in BTC, it's better to send money back home with bitcoin. In some cases, it might even make more sense to buy coins, send them and have the recipients sell them for local currency.
The biggest two problems that I see are small payments and needing to convert back and forth between fiat. The former is mostly a technical challenge that lightning network should fix by becoming more user friendly.
The latter is entirely a social problem in getting people to accept it. If we're being honest, this is more of an uphill battle. The trolls who post memes and tell people to have fun staying poor are not helping. Huge centralized mining operations, espencially ones that get their energy from things like coal are a headwind. Some progress has been made to distinguish bitcoin from all the shitcoins, but things like FTX are troublesome. It doesn't matter that financial collapse of centralized exchanges are the exact thing bitcoin was invented to make irrelevant.
So thank you to all you who are out there showing the practical, real world benefits of bitcoin to everyday people.
Double thanks to those who accept BTC for payment and use BTC to buy things. That's exactly what is going to solve the problem of not having to go through the exchanges.
Also, yes, far too busy today to post about all the cooking. LOL
Homemade ghee: $4/lb
Store bought ghee: $11/9 oz
And I KNOW our ghee is shelf stable for at least 2 years. We go through it far faster these days though. 😋

I've done the next variety of apples: Fuji
They're better tasting and because they were bigger, I got more weight for the same number of apples! 🧑🍳💋
Ratio of input to output is almost identical. I figured it'd vary a little as the smaller apples would be a higher proportion of apple cores, but apparently not.
Next up: more pink lady apples. They'll be done tomorrow, but tomorrow is cooking day so I probably won't have time to post any pictures.
To the person who said they didn't want to run Qubes because it doesn't support secure boot, here's one more example of a secure boot bypass.
This is why many security experts want solutions that are better than secure boot, and why Qubes has multiple options for better protections (Heads and the evil-maid protections).
Update: got pretty much a hard no on Bitcoin
"We do not accept cryptocurrency at this time and do not anticipate doing this in the future. We will update the FAQ to make this explicit."
I'm happy to report that Qubes works with Signet hardware!
As you would expect, the USB device can only type into the qube to which it is attached. You'll need a usb-qube in order to pass the device through to a qube, which is usually set up at install time.
More info on Signet at https://hax0rbana.org/signet
There seems to be a problem with Qubes 4.2 not passing through raw HID devices, but I've started a thread about it on the Qubes forum and am trying to get to the bottom of it as quickly as possible.
Since I used both Qubes and Signet daily before upgrading from Qubes 4.1, this is kinda important for me! It's seriously disrupting my workflow!
