#Bitcoin only, financially illiterate psychopath. NIP-65 advocate, grower of plants, roaster of coffee, noser of whisky, tinkerer of technology.

Interactions with the nostr protocol have an Event Kind associated with it to identify the type of event it is. For instance, a regular note like this is Kind 1, or when you "like" a post it gets a Kind 7.

When you zap, you're creating a Kind 9734 event which identifies the associated Note ID, the receivers pubkey, and the amount you are zapping for.

Once you've paid the invoice, the lightning node creates a Kind 9735 event that confirms you paid it and sends it out to your relays.

This will be a great way to get newcomers to Nostr interested in setting up an LN wallet and start zapping 👍

Cool, thanks for the 7 sats 😁

Simple but it works.

Everyone keeps asking but there's no response. Maybe it's just a bot.

There are a few ways to backup your contact list, although I think it's beem overwritten now in your case.

The Gossip desktop client stores it locally, and you can push that list out to your relays if it happens again.

It does seem to be the common denominator.

I think the lightning node ("zapper" referenced in the NIP) communicates that it was paid and creates the event.

Agreed, I'm not trying to say this is a bad idea. I'm thinking of it more from the perspective of, if the event is already capturing the amount of sats I send, then I think it should display that rather than hide it from the user.

If I'm transmitting that data to relays, I want to be aware of it.

If zaps are meant to have no regard for an individual's privacy, then I suppose it makes sense to show it if the data is captured.

I published a new macro article today: https://www.lynalden.com/broke-federal-reserve/

Since September 2022, the Fed has been operating at a financial loss. This article examines some of the ramifications of that. The main result is that money that would otherwise flow to the US Treasury now flows to US banks and money market funds instead.

Sharing it on Nostr today and Twitter tomorrow. ;)

Nostr first 🤙

I always look forward to reading your articles, thanks Lyn!
