You don't pay for self-custody, but for cloud hosting. If you host yourself, it's completely free
It costs 21k sats / month, but it's10k sats for first 3 months
Subscription payment is built on nostr:npub19hg5pj5qmd3teumh6ld7drfz49d65sw3n3d5jud8sgz27avkq5dqm7yv9p - it allows us to charge subscription amount from the wallet. You can technically stop it but then we will close your cloud deployment after some time
It's a question for Nostr clients I guess. But I suppose they do not offer it yet because most users would not receive zaps at all then
We do not offer new custodial wallets, unfortunately.
That would require us to do KYC for our users. We do not want to do this.
That also needs we would custody users funds, we also do not want to do it.
We're working hard to smoothen the experience for new wallet, it's still a lot of work to be done.
We want to help you set it up and answer all your questions. It's night where we are, so let's do it tomorrow If you can!

BOLT12 is quite complicated to implement and most wallets do not support them so you wouldn't be able to receive sats with it
It's on the roadmap, just not yet
He's running our new self-custodial wallet https://blog.getalby.com/what-is-alby-hub/
Hey, sorry for your troubles, we're still working to improve onboarding experience. We need to do more work to help people understand what's happening.
Channel opening cost the same as on-chain transaction + some small fee (usually around 10k sats), however we now offer 1 free channel opening for our subscribers with big receiving capacity, so you won't have to pay anything more than 1 onchain transaction (about $0.5).
Your contributions on Nostr are incredible and we will happily make sure you don't need to pay anything to open your channel.
Please, set a meeting with us! We have a Spanish speaking support, we'll make sure you're be all set and taken care of:

Hey nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm this isnβt a good look for you. He is doing live reporting from a war zone, during a period of revolution. This is the kind of thing that can start a mass migration away from you.
We definitely have to improve is to communicate beforehand about the needs to put some amounts of funds to open a channel and make it easier to understand what's happening for lightning users.
Channel opening cost. We now open one for free for subscribers. All self-custodial lightning wallets have costs to open channels and those with integrated LSPs also in transaction fees, this is something we can't subsidise. We do not charge transaction fees
Connecting to my existing Alby account and extension was rough, but I got nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm Hub up and running. If the setup can be smoothed out for existing users (maybe new user onboarding is simpler?), this will be a great product.
Hey Shawn, glad you like Hub in the end!
What was the rough part? We'd love to hear your issues to improve the flow!
Alby Account users actually do not have to do anything after they deploy Hub β their Alby Account in the extension (and everywhere else) will automatically use Alby Hub for payments
I'm zapping self-custodially from my own node on Nostr on mobile wallet and on desktop with browser extension, in person with mobile NWC wallet, in podcasting 2.0 apps and even in games (https://rolznz.github.io/zappy-bird/).
All with one node staying steadily at my home.
Lightning reaches every place TODAY
I'm disappointed that nostr:nprofile1qqs2auxkkgfgylem580xrztp8ek5sf83s86k0vfq2feuz6y4lkhskgcpz4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezummcw3ezuer9wchsztkr48 never got an answer to his question about what Bitcoin looks like to those who can't afford a UTXO.
This is an important question, maybe *the* important question. But it also underscores how much he diverged from his "pleb everyman" origins: this is very much not a newcomer question!
Guess I won't be on WBD to answer it, either!*
*Spoiler: I don't know the answer, but I can describe the possibilities and issues people can (and are!) exploring...
Hey Rusty! Any updates on GSR?
Did you also take bolt12?
We're going to do Nostr nests too :)
Doing some design UX research on subscription confirmation pages for Alby Cloud and none are relevant since everywhere in fiat world you need to add your personal details and credit card π
nostr:npub1kuc70777tsvj67fl75s2dmy376t97hv05xmyuyshzzy6vhj5q5jstv0eyw mention you can bypass it by having a "permanent notification" on iOS which we want to use to allow bitcoin core running on iphones
Cool that not all come to Nostr from bitcoin π
It's good topic to dive into though - especially when you notice the purchasing power of your sats keeps going up the longer you keep it, something opposite to one with your national currency
This is for Alby Extension, not Alby Hub!
If you want to use Alby Hub with Extension, you Continue with Alby Account, register and then can choose how you want to run Alby Hub
That's kinda a bit for bitcoin nerds π Casual users can use default settings (which is LDK node)
Did you know you can run #AlbyHub with LDK, LND, phoenixd,
Greenlight, nostr:npub1mu7nv2jkaq4xausnn098xc8tp3gzgf2w5r2cj68x8dnns0rktmysnsj5cl SDK and even Cashu?!
https://blog.getalby.com/the-6-different-lightning-backends-for-alby-hub/
That's right β we're giving huge freedom to Alby Hub users about how they want to use it. You can run it on most of popular lightning implementations and even one ecash one.

Keep Nostr weird
#GM my Nostriches
Can someone put me in touch with Alby support. I signed up for their new alby hub this morning to try out and discuss on nostr:nprofile1qqsd90dkhlct3ltcwj3dwxnnqle4rxpcpfvqx87w2xnufxp254xgvfcpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszyrhwden5te0dehhxarj9ekk7mf0qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9u5h9zdx but I can't login and get a "too many redirects" error.
#asknostr
#alby
#help
Hey Ian! Does this still persists?
It's not really adjusted to be a routing node I think. But you can also run it on phoenixd and LND
I'ts heartwarming to read such positive feedback. There's a ton of UX improvements Alby Hub has so I was a bit anxious with the launch, that's not good enough. But most feedback is positive so far.
It's going to be so much better and so much powerful too.
Excited for what's coming
