I was listening to a podcast discussion between Jordan Peterson and John Vervaeke, and they mentioned that the academic literature on meaning suggests that meaning is found in having this you would wish to exist in the absence of your own existence, and to which you matter.

They discussed children as the perfect example. A parent wishes the child to exist independently, and that parent makes an immense difference to the child.

My thought turned to the Christian spiritual tradition. We are called to love God with our whole selves, i.e., to value God independently of our own existence. Further, Jesus' death and resurrection indicates that we make an infinite difference to God.

By all rights, then, the life of the Christian ought to be the most meaningful way to live that could possibly be.
