Santacolor100 🎅. I saw this film at one of the local camera stores today and thought it would be interesting to try. #photography

Yeah. As much as I’d like to quit my job and post on Nostr all day, I’m certainly not getting anywhere near enough zaps on my notes to do that! 🤣

In the early days of zaps they were like a new toy and everyone was experimenting with them but that has died off now. Even notes from some of the larger accounts don’t seem to get much on many of their notes anymore. I don’t think it’s impossible to make 10k sats per day but you would have to be spending a lot of time making content and posting frequently to get that.

I wanted to stay here a little longer to get more photos from different angles but I was getting attacked by mosquitos. And there was a lizard that seemed quite unhappy that I disturbed it. 😂

That’s an interesting question. I think for me recently it has been more working on refining and improving things that I am already doing. Still always open to trying different ideas, experimenting and learning, but nothing radically different.

Not formally but I do find that it is always a time that I reflect on the past year and think about plans for the next year.

Thanks! It’s a much needed break after a busy year.

Finished work for the year and now 5 weeks off before I have to go back!

Hot here today. Not good weather to be inside at home trying to work when the air conditioning is broken.. 🥵

I’ll tip occasionally here in Australia if someone goes beyond what is normally expected of their job and provides great service but otherwise I pay the price listed. Housing affordability is definitely a problem and tipping isn’t going to fix that.

Thanks! The telescope was a William Optics ZenithStar 61mm MARK II on a Skywatcher EQM-35 mount. The camera was ZWO ASI533MC Pro. Captured using APT and processed with PixInsight. I don’t remember exactly but I think they were 1 or 2 minute subexposures and a total exposure time of about 3 hours.

Not planets, but these are some of my own astrophotography images captured a few years ago. This is what is possible by an amateur from a suburban backyard, but it needs the right equipment for astrophotography.

The P900 and other similar superzoom cameras are fine for some purposes but not for astrophotography. Photographing objects in space with this type of camera are likely to give results that are low resolution, poorly focused and have a lot of distortion.

Nothing at the moment! It is a test service provided by the company I work for and this particular type of service isn’t yet generally available to everyone until September.

NBN fibre 2000/200 Mbps testing. This 2Gbps speed tier, along with speed upgrades to existing tiers, will be generally available in September. A new NBN NTD needs to be installed which has 2.5Gbps ports in order to get the 2Gbps speed. A lot of users will also likely need to upgrade their routers if they want to get these speeds.

I created a quick diagram to illustrate the Primal cache issue in a simplified way that may help some people understand what is going on and help with choices about which client to use. There are many ways to build clients and there are advantages and disadvantages of each.

In Primal’s case, notes are served from Primal’s cache server which gets notes from the relays rather than the client getting them directly from the relays. The advantage to this is that much of the processing can be done on the server side resulting in a very smooth and consistent experience for users.

The down side to this is that it becomes centralised as, without the server infrastructure operated by Primal themselves, the client completely stops working (the cache is open source but I’m not aware of any other instances of the Primal cache being run and most users wouldn’t use a different one anyway). The issues with this centralisation are that it make Primal much more prone to outages and it would be very easy for ISPs to block Primal just by DNS blocking of the Primal cache server or blocking the associated IPs. Primal could also potentially filter or censor the feed from their cache although I’m not aware of whether they actually do this currently.

For me personally, I want a client that talks directly to the relays and does the processing locally but others may be comfortable with the limitations and loss of decentralisation and find that Primal provides a good experience.

One of the best things about Nostr is that you can take your key and move to a different client. It is worthwhile experimenting with different clients to find the experience that best suits you. 💜🫂
