People have tried and failed to get WoT to work since the introduction of pgp in 1991. Hereās my stab at why theyāve failed, and what we must do to succeed.
The problem is that people have always jumped to the end goal, and skipped the beginning, the foundation.
The end goal is for your WoT to curate facts and information. Everything from whatās the best coffee shop to whatās happening at the front lines of a war zone. Everything from subjective opinion to objective facts.
But we have skipped the foundation, which is this: your WoT needs to curate the language itself. The digital tools that we use to talk about facts and information. Currently these tools are curated by digital stewards: repo managers, w3c committees on standards, etc. We need our WoT to take over the responsibilities of every one of these digital stewards. Only then will we see WoT reach its potential.
This is what Iām working on, btw.
Exactly. Just like some people might see the evils of fiat and conclude money is the root of all evil. But the answer is not to get rid of money; the answer is to decentralized it. Same is true for web of trust.
The danger is that nostr could recapitulate too many aspects of legacy social media, in exactly the way you mention. Actively rewarding people bc they are influencers = punishing those who are not influencers. Lots of people donāt want us to recreate that world.

I felt like doing push ups forever, Laura!
Hodl a second, does that me hyperpushupization is coming? š±
Let's face it, #100adayuntil100k is a voluntary transition from an inferior body to a superior one, and its adoption is a series of #pushups in the #plebchain rather than a single OG that games the system. šŖ
Hyperpushupization is a speculative event, even though the development of the #Nostr world shows that it might turn into our shared future. The adjustment of all #fitness structures will certainly take a while, and also there are such issues as regulatory uncertainty, technical complexity, and body volatility which make the push up adoption slower, it still seems that the benefits of a Push-up-centered global fitness movement are worth finding ways to overcome the challenges. š
Hyperpushupization ftw š šŖš»š

Day 9 ā
The point of a WoT-curated page for nostr apps will be so you can keep up to date and have fun discovering new apps and even new categories of apps that you didnāt know existed. You wonāt even have to be logged in, unless you want to contribute / help curate. I see it as a playground to find out what WoT can do.
WoT has lots of uses, but no need to apply it for mission critical purposes before itās ready.
The consequences of discovering a bad actor?
Dependencies can be curated in the same fashion as the apps. Your WoT maintains a list of dependencies and organizes them into categories, like the āoh crap these have malware!!!ā category.
With WoT, you can remove the attacker from your WoT as soon as you realize it. Or even better, someone else in your WoT spots the attacker and does the removal before you ever realize thereās a problem.
Imagine if your web of trust could:
- manage a list of nostr apps
- manage a hierarchy of categories and determine which apps belong to which categories
- update all of the above on a continuous basis
Who would like to see that?
Whether someone is on your team or not is always an important question. But is it the most important question? The tribal mentality almost always obscures an objective understanding of the world. It makes us focus on one set of facts and simply ignore some other set of facts.
Putin believes in some sort of manifest destiny where eastern Ukraine belongs to him. (I havenāt seen the Putin-Carlson interview yet but we already know this ā e.g. from an interview with Oliver Stone a few years ago.) NATO wanted a war bc profits. One being true should not justify ignoring the other.
