I thrive in incomprehensibility.

So two years ago we bought a Frigidaire 44lb a day icemaker at Costco. It didn't make that much, the ice was tiny, a lot of it melted, it wouldn't fit under the shelf on the kitchen counter and the water tank was impossible to empty or clean.

We hadn't used it for the first month or so that we had it, so despite these problems we kept it and used it on the odd occasion. Maybe 5 times.

It was so bad we picked up one that was recommended that made 26lb a day. That worked much better, fit on the counter, was easy to fill and made larger cubes.

Really wanted something with more capacity, which is why we got the larger Frigidaire rather than the one recommended in the first place, so when Jack recommended the Vevor 37lb / day model, I wanted to try it, however I had $280 in icemaking already... But,

Someone I talked to about it said 'doesn't Costco let you 'return anything''? I had heard that, so I thought I might test it out. I checked the attic for the box and it was not there (we've got the space so I usually save them), but googled and it sounded like the box didn't even matter so off I went.

After two years and with no box, the only question was 'what's wrong with it'. I replied 'it just doesn't do a good job', and they gave me a full refund!

Anyway I got the Vevor (for $42 less) and wanted to share a bit of my experience. We did one run to 'clear it' and then made some ice for the 4th. Today I ran it to see what we actually got. I ran it till the 'tray full' indicator stopped it. First run form a cold (warm 79°) start we got 4.48lbs in 3:10:00 give or take. Next run got 4.1Lbs in just under 3 hours, so about 32-35 lbs per day. The Ice is bigger than the big Frigidaire but similar 'chunk style ice.

Totally happy with it as is my wife. It's at full price right now, but well worth keeping an eye on for another sale.

And here I thought the only dip the 4th of July would bring was French onion... I bought both.

Is this a) A scene from the Planet of the Apes or some other post apocalyptic movie, or b) The side entrance to an upscale shopping center in 2024? (forgive the angle, it was taken from my moving jeep).

The second is the same spot a year ago.

At this point, if you go to twitter, you are mad.

Just in the more british sense of the word.

I ran for Constable as a write in years back. It was funny because when the one side had no candidate, they were content to let the other party win uncontested, but when I and another guy ran in their party as write ins they QUICKLY rounded up an official candidate to be sure neither of us won. (learned a LOT about 'our system' that day)

That said, this guy is certainly clever and committed if nothing else! 😛

That said, I recall years back Jack White was being interviewed by someone in the legacy media, and he was asked if he used cannabis. He said he did not, and added that he considered that 'cheating', meaning the cannabis is doing the creating, not the writer.

I thought about it and found that I strongly disagree.

The analogy I thought of was a skier. Does a skier go to a football field to ski? No, he goes to the mountain.

Does the mountain HELP him ski? Sure. It may even in a sense CAUSE him to ski. But is the skier who skis.

When you see someone do an amazing slalom course, would you jeer and say 'he couldn't do that without the mountain, it's the mountain that's skiing'. No.

Sometimes cannabis is the mountain that your creativity finds its groove in.

I feel I must make a critical notation to this. Assuming the Puffing and the high is derived from cannabis, you are NOT getting 'intoxicated'.

You need to consume a toxin, like alcohol or many other drugs to be 'intoxicated'. Cannabis is not toxic, and thus does not cause intoxication.

Except that my grand children are literally far more capable of understanding the reality than these people. So yes children, but not JUST children; petulant children.

And even worse; we're not just working so we can have the things we want and need, and they can just print money for what they want and need.

No, HALF THE TIME we work, we're working SOLELY so we can give that money to the people who just print it anyway.

It seems needlessly, and intentionally demoralizing.

ONE thing I heard from the LP that makes sense: All ballots MUST include the option 'no suitable candidate' which if that wins, the office is unfilled.

Put a "NOBODY" option on every ballot, and you will get MUCH higher turnout, and will achieve far more for good.

Freedom tastes of reality.

It's psychotic. 100%.

As I noted a while back "Everyone's familiar with the moral question 'would you steal to feed your child. The answer is yes. Financially compromised people tend to forgo their morals."

Another example of the same concept; where employers for high position management or sales jobs will NOT hire someone who's not DEEP in debt, because they know they can absolutely OWN those who are.

So it's one of the reasons they let value seep out of YOUR money, in addition to the fact that it seeps TO them.

Learned a WHOLE lot about central air conditioning today.

Previously had a problem with the compressor not firing up, replaced the capacitor and that seemed to have fixed it. Last night it did it again, the compressor buzzed and the air handler blew, then stopped, then blew again.

I replaced the 'contactor' in the compressor this morning to no avail but after five hours in the 100° attic, and troubleshooting the entirety of the 24V system, I found that the pan sensor had failed. That sensor protects it if the condensate doesn't drain from the unit properly and fills the pan. Normally it passes the 24V connection, when it triggers, it 'opens' and shuts off the circuit (0V), when it failed it instead just passed 10-16V which would trigger the 24V relay, but then it would switch off again causing the blower to go and stop and go and stop. Also 16V isn't enough to engage the 'contactor' (240V relay) in the compressor.

I took that sensor out of the loop and it appears to be working fine now. I'll get a replacement at the supply house on monday.

Got to say, don't make friends exclusively for the 'benefits', but it is great having friends in the trades who don't mind answering questions when you have problems!

I'm a good troubleshooter, but out of my element here, so just a little specialized knowledge made all the difference and saved me easily a grand. Also got me into the unit so I can see that I should probably start saving for a replacement over the next couple years...
