Layer 0 is people | Spiral Grantee working on Programming Lightning

Friends, I’m hosting another Programming Lightning workshop at the stunning nostr:npub1cxyr9w0dwkjxs7svmwjlg4veqp9uzw0qvwux0c0554lqzw5ut48qrahz6x!

During this 1-day workshop, we'll build a Lightning channel from scratch. Along the way, we'll leverage the following educational tools to ensure that participants come away with a deep understanding of topics such as asymmetric commitment transactions, revocation keys, HTLCs, and more:

- Coding exercises

- Socratic method (question-driven learning)

- LOTS of diagrams

- Small-group discussions, where participants teach each other to reinforce concepts collaboratively

If you're in the SF Bay Area and would like to attend, please fill out this form: https://t.co/VwLy123QDK

Are there any Nostr relays that will pull posts from X or BlueSky and post them on Nostr?

There are lots of conversations happening on these other platforms that I would like to see, but I don't want to have to open three apps (X, BlueSky, Nostr).

Of course, we wouldn't be able to interact with the poster, but it can still spark discussion on Nostr. Also, all the zaps sent to the post can help fund the relay.

Internet friends, I’m a nostr:npub1spralxq6jlw5rdy0249vqr5sh43rfrlx2wzv3rhjjqedw559w9psrs8s72 grantee working on Programming Lightning (PL), a course that teaches devs how Lightning works.

I'm hosting a PL alpha workshop in February at the beautiful Presidio Bitcoin.

If you're located in the SF Bay Area and interested in joining and providing feedback to help make this course amazing, plz fill out this form: https://t.co/10K0MyaEtJ

While this event will be in-person (😎) in San Francisco, there will be online sessions in the future for those who would like to attend virtually.

Pura Vida,

Austin

Is there a polling tool that rewards people in sats once they complete the poll?

What have you found to be the easiest way to do this?

Standing desk?

Walk every morning before doing anything?

Etc.

100% agree!

Getting involved with Bitcoin projects on the side has been really great.

I’ve also started working on a Bitcoin article of my own, which I’m excited to share with the space when it’s finished.

The urge to quit my job so that I can think and write about Bitcoin is strong.

The funding to do so is not.

A cruel predicament, indeed.

Up until this every moment, I thought this emoji was a vintage movie camera: 🫂

Mind blown.

Wen "Bitcoin, Not Crypto." clothing line?

Something simple, elegant, and to the point.

I would happily hand over some sats for this.

(mock-up below)

PV,

This morning, I’m thinking about Thomas Kuhn’s model for paradigm shifts and how it applies to Bitcoin.

What are you thinking about?

For motivated learners with some technical background, I always recommend having the Chaincode Labs self-paced seminars bookmarked.

They're fantastic resources with recommended readings, videos, and discussion questions.

They pair very nicely with Mastering Bitcoin / Mastering Lightning.

My fiancée made me this wonderful birthday card.

First thing I said: “Bitcoin, not Crypto.”

Appreciate the zap! ⚡️

Heads up, you may want to change your default zap to something less than 1,000. You can do that in settings.

For example, I’ve seen most people change their amount around 40-70 sats.

I searched their pub key on Nostr and then went to their profile. They usually have a link to a website where you can send some Sats to whitelist your pub key on their relay.

You can find the paid relay’s pub key in this article.

It took me a while, but I think I finally understand what people mean when they say “Bitcoin is the stable coin”.

These two graphs do a good job at summarizing.

⁃    Over time, all fiat currencies depreciate against gold (a stable asset)

⁃    Over time, fiat currencies take turns so to speak being the global reserve asset

Therefore, the true stable asset to hold your wealth in over time, across boarders, and regardless of who holds political power, is Bitcoin.

Stablecoins (Tether, Circle, etc.) may be filling this need right now, but they are not the long-term solution.
