I felt like pizza last night, so I found a dough recipe in the family cookbook, raided the pantry for toppings and made three.

I always enjoy seeing reading lists. It lets me see how my prior reading stacks up, and give clues to books I should add to the shelves of my study.

There is a hundred miles between me and those buttes. MT is flat.

We don’t get frost free until late may. My potatoes should have gone in on Good Friday, but we had 6” of snow.

I will probably plant them and a few other thing in cold frames this weekend.

Gardening is tough on the high desert frontier.

I am sure it will, but I am equally unsure that the alliances will be in the interests of western civilization.

I have been everywhere, this is the best place.

I am out here between the village and the frontier.

This summer will mark the start of several projects: A greenhouse combined with an egg house, a series of raised bed gardens, the chickens themselves, and a bee hive.

I had chickens to feed the coyotes at the farm, and a level bed garden that grew more mallow than anything. Hopefully some of those problems are minimized in my village space.

The Montana state legislature voted to ban TikTok in the state. The bill would prevent a company from allowing people in Montana to download the app.

https://leg.mt.gov/bills/2023/billpdf/SB0419.pdf

The bill states that the reasoning is because 1) China is an adversary to the U.S. and 2) TikTok promotes harmful behavior and collects data on users.

It was sponsored by a Republican and mostly passed by Republicans. Most Democrats opposed it but were outvoted. It still needs to be signed by the governor, and it would be open to court challenges.

I don't like TikTok, but that's not a promising snapshot for where lawmakers are in terms of software control.

I get the sense that this is a backlash bill. Essentially: You can’t legislate morality, but if people don’t regulate themselves at some level, then society will do it for them.

This is the pendulum swinging back from absolute hedonism.

Democracy is based on the assumption that a million men are wiser than one man. How's that again? I missed something. Autocracy is based on the assumption that one man is wiser than a million men. Let's play that over again, too. Who decides? - Robert Heinlein
