Failed experiment transferring sats between eNuts and Fedi. Here’s 250 sats for someone else….

The key point is that when these principles are taken to an extreme and divorced from any consideration of the common good or the social and institutional prerequisites for a stable and just society, they can lead to outcomes that are deeply problematic and that can create the conditions for more authoritarian and even fascistic forms of politics to take root.

Here's how this dynamic might play out:

If the principle of "don't aggress" is interpreted in a highly individualistic and atomistic way, it can lead to a view of society as nothing more than a collection of isolated individuals, each pursuing their own interests without regard for others. This can erode social bonds, undermine a sense of shared responsibility, and create a vacuum of meaning and purpose that can be filled by more authoritarian and collectivist ideologies.

Similarly, an absolutist conception of private property rights, without any recognition of the broader social context in which those rights are embedded, can lead to extreme inequalities of wealth and power, and a sense of disenfranchisement and resentment among those who feel left behind. This can create fertile ground for populist and nationalist movements that promise to restore a sense of belonging and purpose, even at the cost of individual freedoms.

Moreover, if the state is seen as nothing more than a "night watchman" whose sole purpose is to protect individual rights and property, it may lack the capacity and legitimacy to address collective challenges and provide the public goods and services necessary for a healthy and stable society. This can lead to a breakdown of trust in public institutions and a further erosion of the social fabric, creating openings for more authoritarian forms of governance to fill the void.

To be clear, none of this is to suggest that the principles of individual rights, private property, and non-aggression are inherently fascistic or that they inevitably lead to authoritarianism. Rather, the point is that when these principles are taken to an extreme and abstracted from the broader social and political context in which they are necessarily embedded, they can have unintended and dangerous consequences.

This is why thinkers in the classical liberal tradition, and more recently those associated with "state capacity libertarianism" and "liberal nationalism," have emphasized the need to balance these principles with a strong conception of the common good and a recognition of the positive role that effective and accountable government can play in securing the conditions for individual freedom and social flourishing.

“when these principles are taken to an extreme and divorced from any consideration of the common good or the social and institutional prerequisites for a stable and just society”

Apply that statement to any political ideology and you are not going to have a good outcome.

I've recently fallen into a Niklas Luhmann rabbit hole.

Here is Hans-Georg Moeller on Luhmann's Social Systems theory

“It is, empirically speaking (from an observer’s perspective), communication that constitutes communication, and not human beings as individuals. Of course, human beings are necessary for communication to take place—but it is not they who are “operating” within communication. They are, rather, the external condition sine qua non of communication, but not an internal element of communication and society.”

“Languages are protocols and protocols are languages”

Good question, I am not sure. It’s going to depend on a lot of factors but the sync protocol being used maintains state between peers without transferring events.

The work nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s is doing on nostrdb is remarkable. If every phone is also a relay, using cashu we’ll finally be able to do truly P2P digital payments. nostr:note1stps2a65xz509z2rk7uwchmqeymuapl2u5tx332yqt292wymfrlqjjwphl

An idea for Purple that could be interesting to explore once local relays is working is private mesh networks using Wireguard.

Abstract transport security away at the user/group level for an additional layer of privacy between senders and receivers.

Ye shall know the truth, and signed JSON shall set you free ✌️

Are any relay operators actively synchronizing events with other relays using strfry?

Curious to know if it's working in the wild.

Our survival depends on seeking a state of equilibrium facts be damned.

I know right? Sometimes I feel the need to watch stuff like this over and over to make sure I’m not missing anything.

Powell on national television testifying that there will be bank failures in the coming years.

But have no fear, it will only be the small and medium sized banks.

The Fed is not a conspiracy... he's plainly and publicly describing how they will consolidate power. https://video.nostr.build/15d0719a73070b94eb0fff313915445a7c9a9df3c60806ca0109a3f939eb341e.mp4

An L2 wallet like SideSwap can be useful to consolidate utxos, downside is moving in and out of liquid is not free and you’re trusting they’re not logging your receive addresses.

I mean look at my boring ass background. I set it when I joined nostr and haven’t changed it since 😂

The other nice thing is you could just provide a url like banner.pub/npubxxx and the user would only have to set it once, no need to ask for their private key

I think you could be onto something with the concept of personalized banners. I’m thinking of taking it one step further by making them dynamic and programmatically generated.

This art is really cool. What if it rotated weekly? What if the banner integrated others parts of the users profile into the design, displayed stats, somehow translated the tone of the users notes into the vibe of the banner….

While technically this could be scripted pretty easily, it would all depend on creativity and great design. Done right it would be worth charging a small monthly subscription fee and as a bonus it would market itself.

Something like that, except I believe it’s the mint that does the redemption and burn of the sats. All the tokens are claims on the mint’s balance.
