what will be cool is that the network will fracture into smaller communities - all the while identity will remain portable with notes remaining immutable and interoperable.
Just in case. That hits hard š
LOL⦠that moment of dread which then leads to relief when you realize things will be ok. Related is the joy of a new machineā¦. ānothing gets copied/installed until I need itā
FOMO is not just real, itās everywhere. Lately Iāve been thinking about ways to combat the negative effects by being more intentional with information decay functions⦠some sort of algorithmic TTL on the digital items I hoard.
totally with you. pay-to-play promotes the idea that you can use money to purchase attention.
Yup! It takes getting used to. Hell, half the reason I'm writing this is to remind myself. š
Interesting. Iām willing to pay for information which is (potentially) valuable but opposed to others paying to impose what they think I should see.
what frustrates people more... that their message doesn't reach every node? or that they can't read every message from every node?
nostr is multicast, not broadcast.
people want nostr to be "twitter without the censorship" without understanding that the very architecture that enables censorship resistance changes the delivery guarantees.
multicast is more resilient than broadcast because you can propagate information without requiring guaranteed delivery to every node.
decide what matters more to you, perfect delivery or censorship resistance.
Great point. Society needs foundational components to build different layers of trust. No value exchange exists which is not somewhere on a gradient of trust.
(which unfortunately could make communication between real humans less efficient)
the moar formulaic and automated we maek writing the more writing without any respekt for convention will exhibets actual proof of work
āļø gm. letās smash some turts today
Totally. Alsoā¦. I understand the disdain for LinkedIn the website, but skills, profession, industry, and work history are excellent heuristics for community building and knowledge sharing.
Wondering if we just extend kind 0 as far as possible.
Has a resume/CV kind been discussed somewhere? Have to believe someone gave it a go but donāt see anything in nips.
Interesting how the way we anticipate things unfolding is inverted, yet we arrive at the same place. Optimistic things will be ok??
From a historical perspective, super intelligence seems inevitable. There appears no reason to believe the trajectory of compute can't or won't continue. Because of this, I do genuinely want to understand if there is a real existential threat. But with nothing to rely on other than speculation, I tend to believe systems will self-correct to stay in balance. Nature FTW.
āTheyā implies a kind of embodied intelligence, but itās not clear what that actually means. Where does such an entity begin or end? What are these entities doing prior to breaking containment?
How do AI doomers like Eliezer make the logical leap from machine intelligence to machines we canāt control? There is a gap there based on nothing. Itās just āand then we lose controlā as if itās inevitable.
I'm not so sure it's critical mass as much as it is we've been conditioned to accept the mobile+broadcast+timeline pattern as the primary form of communication. It's just everyone screeching into the void and wondering why they feel alone. Sorry if that sounds negative - I'm not trying to be... just attempting to put my finger on why people are desperate to reimplement the same patterns which have failed to provide meaningful dialog at scale on the major platforms. Popular opinion states if there were just more people on nostr, then people would engage in meaningful dialog, when I think the opposite would happen. Ephemeral broadcast does not engender meaningful connections.
Agree completely, but whatās starting to bum me out is how we all sit here on nostr talking about meaningful dialog. Scan this reply thread, nobody is talking to each other. Itās broadcast only. The biggest voices on the platform just shout things about community then disappear. Itās quite a charade.
